Background/objectives: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition characterized by an imbalanced immune response to infection, posing a significant challenge in hospital settings due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. While much attention has been given to patients in the ICU, uncertainties remain regarding the nutritional management of septic patients in non-intensive wards. This narrative review aims to address these gaps by exploring key aspects of nutritional care in sepsis patients admitted to non-intensive wards.

Pure fueling results in a turbulent propagating flame anchored by the hot gas recirculation zones developed near the inlet of the sequential combustion chamber. As the content increases, the combustion process changes drastically, with multiple auto-ignition kernels produced upstream of the main flame brush.

For best clinical translatability and broad application to cancer patients, STING agonists with potent cellular activation of all STING variants are desired. Novel cyclic dinucleotide (CDN)-based selective STING agonists were designed and synthesized comprising noncanonical nucleobase, ribose, and phosphorothioate moieties.

SM therapy was demonstrated not only to sensitize tumor cells to TNFα-mediated cell death but also to exert immunostimulatory properties. Their good safety and tolerability profile, plus promising preclinical data, warrants further investigation into their various effects within the tumor microenvironment.

An early assessment is necessary to stratify the risk of short-term outcomes and mortality. The predictive role of COntrolling NUTritional status (CONUT) score in this context has not yet been elucidated in Western countries.

Due to the significant adverse event rates of surgery, the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society issued guidelines favoring surveillance for those patients lacking criteria suggestive of an aggressive disease. Despite the above recommendations, a significant proportion of small NF-PNEN patients still undergo surgery.

The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) recently released new criteria for RS risk and diagnosis. Real-life data on its incidence are still limited.

Among the available prognostic tools, procalcitonin (PCT) is considered a marker of bacterial infection. Furthermore, an association between vitamin D deficiency and poor sepsis-related outcomes has been described.

Until now, DEN has been performed with non-dedicated devices, thus requiring multiple, long-lasting sessions to achieve adequate clearance of necrotic content. These results in prolonged hospital stay, increased costs and have potential consequences for patients who must undergo multiple endoscopic interventions under sedation.

TRAILR2 agonistic molecules have only had limited clinical success, to date, due either to lack of efficacy or hepatotoxicity. BI 905711 is a novel tetravalent bispecific antibody targeting both TRAILR2 and CDH17 and represents a novel liver-sparing TRAILR2 agonist specifically designed to overcome the disadvantages of previous strategies.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of preoperative endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle tattooing (EUS-FNT) to facilitate intra-operative detection of pNETs.
Patients And Methods: Sixteen patients with pNETs (8 insulinoma and 8 non-functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors) underwent EUS-FNT.
Natural killer (NK) cells play a pivotal role in controlling cancer. Multiple extracellular receptors and internal signaling nodes tightly regulate NK activation. Cyclin-dependent kinases of the mediator complex (CDK8 and CDK19) were described as a signaling intermediates in NK cells.

Objective: To assess incidence of primary BSI in patients with recurrent CDI treated with FMT versus antibiotics.
Objective: Sepsis is a life-threatening disease resulting from the interaction between pathogen and host response; its dysregulation causes organ dysfunction, high morbidity, and mortality. Despite the increase of septic patients admitted to Internal Medicine wards, data about clinical predictors of mortality in this setting are still lacking. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of MEDS score and vitamin D as predictors of mortality (28-day and 90-day) in septic patients admitted to the Internal Medicine department.

Although usually managed in Intensive Care Units, sepsis showed an increased prevalence among Internal Medicine wards in the last decade. This is substantially due to the ageing of population and to multi-morbidity.

Unlabelled: Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is an uncommon congenital lung anomaly which consists of a mass of normal lung tissue not connected to the normal tracheobronchial tree and supplied by an anomalous systemic artery. Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) is widely accepted as a tumour marker for biliary, pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancer. However, CA 19-9 may also be increased in patients with benign disease.

Catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBI) represent a frequent complication of immune-compromised hosts with a high mortality rate. In this setting, opportunistic pathogens can create a biofilm on implanted devices, being the source of infection. We provide a mini-review of the literature, starting from the description of two cases of CRBI by opportunistic pathogens in poly-morbid patients, successfully treated by antibiotic lock-therapy.

Here we report on the pharmacological profile of volasertib, a potent and selective Plk inhibitor, in multiple preclinical models of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) including established cell lines, bone marrow samples from AML patients in short-term culture, and subcutaneous as well as disseminated in vivo models in immune-deficient mice. Our results indicate that volasertib is highly efficacious as a single agent and in combination with established and emerging AML drugs, including the antimetabolite cytarabine, hypomethylating agents (decitabine, azacitidine), and quizartinib, a signal transduction inhibitor targeting FLT3.

In parallel with this, the number of studies describing intoxication episodes associated with psychotic symptoms in SC users is growing. We present both a systematic review of the related literature and a case report, which seems to highlight the existence of a possible association between SC use and psychosis.
