Objective: We aimed to assess patients' readiness to transition and its impact on clinical outcomes, quality of life, and adherence to therapy.
Background: In Italy, the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection peaked in April and November 2020, defining two pandemic waves of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study compared the characteristics and outcomes of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and SARS-CoV-2 infections between pandemic waves.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often have other immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs), and the prevalence of any IMID is higher in IBD patients than in the general population. IBD and other IMIDs involve alterations in innate and adaptive immune responses. Their co-occurrence depends on shared immune and inflammatory processes, pathogenic mechanisms, and genetic and environmental risk factors, including drugs, especially tumor necrosis factor inhibitors.
