MRI diagnostics are important for adenomyosis, especially in cases with inconclusive ultrasound. This study assessed the potential of MRI-based radiomics as a novel tool for differentiating between uteri with and without adenomyosis. This retrospective proof-of-principle single-center study included nine patients with and six patients without adenomyosis.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to enhance Dignity Therapy (DT) by involving partners and family caregivers (FCs) of terminally-ill cancer patients to see if it reduces distress for both groups.
  • A total of 68 patients were randomly assigned to receive DT, DT with FCs, or standard palliative care, with assessments conducted before and after the intervention.
  • Results showed significant improvements in patients' quality of life and mental health stability in the DT groups, suggesting DT is effective for end-of-life discussions, though implementing it in a clinical trial presented challenges.

Introduction: Endometriosis is a common disabling pain condition in women of childbearing age, frequently showing familial clustering. Nevertheless, little is known about whether familial predispositions influence its severity or presentation. In this study, we investigate disease characteristics in endometriosis patients with a family history (FH) for endometriosis or the comorbidities migraine, depression and early menopause (EMP).

Study Question: What are the attitudes and perceptions towards endocrine endometriosis therapy?

Summary Answer: Among the study population, endocrine endometriosis therapies are associated with negative mental images and emotions and there seems to be a pre-therapeutic information deficit on the part of physicians.

What Is Known Already: Endocrine therapies, as the current standard of conservative endometriosis treatment, have good efficacy and improve symptoms and quality of life in most patients. Nevertheless, clinical practice repeatedly shows rejection on the part of patients, which may result in reduced compliance and discontinuation of therapy.

Background: While the sexuality of patients with endometriosis is an established topic in research, the possible effect of endometriosis on partnership sexuality has come to the fore only recently. To improve counseling, more information is needed on how both partners experience sexuality in the context of endometriosis.

Aim: Previous research regarding endometriosis and sexuality normally focused on one partner to explore couples' intimate relations, whereas this study provides a comparison on both partners' perspectives on their common sexuality.

This study examines endometriosis (EM) features in women with EM and migraines (MG) (EM-MG) and women with EM alone (EM-O). The comorbidity of MG and EM is well known. However, knowledge about differences in symptoms, clinical manifestations, and severity of EM between EM-MG and EM-O is scarce.

G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) has been found to be an important key regulator in the homeostasis of sex hormone-dependent human cells. The aim of this study was to compare the expression of GPER, estrogen receptor alpha (ER-α), estrogen receptor beta (ER-β) and progesterone receptor (PR) in adenomyosis, eutopic endometrium from the same patients, and eutopic endometrium from patients without adenomyosis. Immunohistochemical analysis of GPER, ER-α, ER-β and PR was performed to assess the expression levels on samples of hysterectomies using tissue microarrays.

Objectives: Assessing urgency in ectopic pregnancies (ECP) remains controversial since the disorder covers a large clinical spectrum. Severe conditions such as acute abdomen or hemodynamic instability are mostly related to intra-abdominal blood loss diagnosed as free fluid (FF) on transvaginal sonography (TVS). The aims of the current study were to investigate the value of FF and to assess other potentially predictive parameters for judging urgency.

Background: There is a growing body of human, animal and in vitro studies on vitamin D (vit D) substitution in endometriosis. The aim of this systematic review is to critically appraise and qualitatively synthesize the results of the available studies that examine the supplementation of vit D for endometriosis treatment.

Methods: A systematic search of the literature was conducted in four electronic databases (Medline, Cochrane, Scopus, Embase) and grey literature for original research articles on humans, animals and in vitro models published in any language.

Background: Social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, are increasingly being used to share health-related information by "influencers," regular users, and institutions alike. While patients may benefit in various ways from these interactions, little is known about the types of endometriosis-related information published on social media. As digital opinion leaders influence the perceptions of their followers, physicians need to be aware about ideas and beliefs that are available online, in order to address possible misconceptions and provide optimal patient care.

Background: Pain plays a central role in endometriosis. The complex relationship among pain characteristics, comorbid pain disorders and daily life represents a challenge for medical support. This multicentre cross-sectional case-control study analysed the association between endometriosis-related chronic pain and functions of daily life in 510 women with endometriosis, 265 (52%) who experienced chronic pain, either from endometriosis alone (N = 134, 26.

Purpose: Proposal of a systematic approach to assess Deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) through pelvic Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using the Enzian classification and examination of inter-rater agreement.

Methods: Three radiologists reviewed 23 MRI of patients with pelvic DIE at one tertiary referral center retrospectively and independently. Inclusion criteria were intraoperative confirmation of DIE and MR imaging according to ESUR (European Society of Urogenital Radiology) guidelines.

The aim of this observational study was to assess the use and outcome of intravitreal aflibercept in a treat and extend regimen in treatment-naïve neovascular AMD patients in routine practice. This both retrospective and prospective study was conducted in four larger Swiss retina clinics (ASTERIA study). The primary endpoint was the mean change in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in ETDRS letters from baseline to 12 months.

Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis - a Systematic Approach to Diagnostics and Surgery Planning Although endometriosis is a common gynaecological clinical picture in women of reproductive age, diagnosis and therapy often begin late after the onset of symptoms. The explanation probably lies on the one hand in the manifold manifestations, the diffuse complaints and the unfortunately rather low awareness of this pathology. On the other hand, the diagnostic procedure itself represents a challenge.
