The Effect of Chewing Gum on the Return of Bowel Activity after Colorectal Cancer Surgery.

Background: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols advocate for early enteral feeding to prevent postoperative ileus. Chewing gum acts as a type of sham feeding that triggers the cephalic phase of digestion by stimulating the cephalic vagus nerve. This can enhance gastrointestinal motility and may lead to quicker recovery of gas and bowel movements.

A Study of Predictors of Failure of Nonoperative Management of Ileocolic Intussusception in Children.

Background: Surgery remains the mainstay in treating intussusception in developing nations. A correspondingly high bowel resection rate exists despite a shift to nonoperative reduction in high-income countries. We aimed to study the clinical profile of the patients with intussusception presenting to our hospital and to assess the clinical and radiological predictors of success or failure of nonoperative management of intussusception.

Validation of Urdu Version of the Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) Score.

Unlabelled: Patients subjected to low anterior resection for rectal cancers experience a constellation of symptoms of disordered bowel function which leads to a detriment in the quality of life. The LAR syndrome (LARS) score is a self-administered questionnaire to identify and assess disordered bowel function after resective surgery. The objective of this study was to validate the Urdu version of the LARS score.
