- The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the SMART-COP score in predicting ICU admission and mortality for patients over 65 years with non-ventilator-associated hospital-acquired pneumonia (NV-HAP).
- Among the 203 patients studied, 77.3% required ICU admission, and the overall mortality rate was 40.9%, with the SMART-COP score being higher in those who were admitted to the ICU or did not survive there.
- The findings indicated that while the SMART-COP score correlated with increased mortality, it had only poor to moderate accuracy in predicting ICU admission and mortality, highlighting the need for better predictive tools.
Purpose: Glucagon stimulation test (GST) is used to assess the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) and growth hormone (GH) axes with an incompletely defined mechanism. We aimed to assess if glucagon acted through fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF-21) to stimulate cortisol and GH secretion. The secondary outcome was to determine the relationship of FGF-21 with variable GH responses to GST in obesity.
