Article Synopsis
  • Studying how cells settle in 3D synthetic biomaterials is important for developing artificial tissues and organs, helping us understand cell behaviors like migration and division over time.
  • Advanced deep learning algorithms are enhancing our ability to segment cells and design biomaterials, as demonstrated through analysis of LHON fibroblasts in a 3D environment after gene modification.
  • Following the 3Rs principle, modeling cell interactions in biomaterials reduces the need for live organisms and aids in drug testing and understanding diseases, drawing inspiration from biomimicry to create effective tissue-like structures.

In this study, the mechanical and thermophysical properties of carbon fiber-reinforced polyethersulfone are investigated. To enhance the interfacial interaction between carbon fibers and the polymer matrix, the surface modification of carbon fibers by thermal oxidation is conducted. By means of AFM and X-ray spectroscopy, it is determined that surface modification changes the morphology and chemical composition of carbon fibers.
