This interventional case series presents a novel surgical procedure involving double interlacing for the correction of esotropia in individuals with sixth cranial nerve palsy. The technique involves first splitting the tendons of the superior rectus, inferior rectus, and lateral rectus muscles. Subsequently, the superior half of the lateral rectus muscle is passed through the undisinserted superior rectus muscle, and the inferior half of the lateral rectus muscle is passed through the undisinserted inferior rectus muscle.

Fourteen asymptomatic normocephalic newborns with confirmed congenital Zika infection were investigated. All newborns presented Zika virus (ZIKV) positivity on reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Following ZIKV-specific NS5 gene fragment sequencing in one child, phylogenetic analysis revealed that this isolate belonged to the Asian genotype, and clustered closely with other sequences previously isolated in north-east and northern regions of Brazil.

Neurodevelopment in 29 normocephalic children with in utero exposure to Zika virus (ZIKV) was evaluated by the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-Third Edition. Ten (35%) infants presented neurodevelopment delay. Language, cognitive and motor delays were identified in 9 (31%), 4 (14%) and 1 (3%) infants, respectively.
