Dietary microRNAs (miRs) represent a new area in food science. Although they have been found in many foods, including honey, more research is needed about their stability and fate during digestion. Hence, this study aimed to analyze the digestive stability of two selected miRs in honey.

Body image perception and social support as predictors of psychological distress among third trimester pregnant women in Nigeria.

Background: Body image perception and social support during pregnancy can impact the psychological distress levels experienced by pregnant women. As a result, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between various components of social support and body image perception on psychological distress levels among pregnant women in their third trimester in Nigeria.

Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 246 pregnant women who were in the third trimester and attending selected health care facilities in Ogbomoso, a semiurban city in Oyo State, Nigeria.

Background: This study addresses the significant challenge of low survival rates in patients with cause-specific lung cancer accompanied by bone or brain metastases. Recognizing the critical need for an effective predictive model, the research aims to establish survival prediction models using both parametric and non-parametric approaches.

Methods: Clinical data from lung cancer patients with at least one bone or brain metastasis between 2000 and 2020 from the SEER database were utilized.

Safety perception and determinants of complementary and alternative medicine usage among surgery out-patients in LAUTECH Teaching hospital, ogbomoso, Nigeria.

Objectives: The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) stemmed from the search of humans for other means of relieving pain and managing diseases which has plagued its existence. CAM use is on the increase among the general population in both the developed and developing nations and also among surgical patients. There is therefore a need to ascertain the perceived adverse effects, the safety perception and the determinants of its use so as to improve the advocacy for adequate regulation.

Expectations and experiences of urban and rural in-school adolescents of adolescent reproductive health services in oyo state, Nigeria.

Reproductive health information and services are fundamental to health, well-being and opportunities for women and young people, yet throughout the world, women and youths do not have access to quality reproductive health care thereby exposing them to unplanned pregnancy, teen birth, induced abortion as well as increased exposure to sexually transmitted diseases, HIV inclusive. This study is meant to explore the expectation of adolescents of an adolescent reproductive health services as well as to assess the experiences of those who had visited an ARHS at the centers. It was a descriptive cross-sectional prospective study, analytic in design using a multistage sampling technique where 452 secondary school pupils in both rural and urban communities were interviewed using a pretested validated questionnaire.

International health regulations and pre-travel health practices of international travelers at Nigerian airport: a cross-sectional study.

Background: International Health Regulations (IHR) were developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to curb the trans-border spread of epidemics. To our knowledge, no airport-based studies have assessed travelers' health practices against a combination of diseases subject to IHR 2005. Therefore, we aimed to generate and describe the baseline travelers' pre-travel health practices towards Cholera, Yellow Fever (YF), and Plague at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Nigeria.

Inventing a robust road-vehicle flood level monitoring device for disaster mitigation.

Flooding impedes road utility and the frequency has increased across countries of the world owing to global climate change phenomena. Global road flooding casualties have risen from 371,800 in 2015 to 842,000 in 2017 resulting to economic losses valued at approximately US$71 billion. Existing devices that offer warning signals on safe threshold during flooding are predictive in nature and based on complex technologies that are cumbersome and rather expensive thereby affecting the attractiveness to low-economy societies of developing countries.

Background Information: According to the United Nations, about 150 million youth spent most of their time on the street, or better still, homeless. Revascularization of near total amputation of the hand: A viable salvage procedure in a resource-constraint setting.

Traumatic near total amputation of the hand with major vascular injury may lead to loss of the hand with dire consequences to the patient. A prompt attempt at salvaging the hand is key to prevent the untoward consequences. In addition, the awareness of the possibility of salvage in our environment should be spread among health care personnel as well as the need for multispecialty approach to the management.

Background: A scar can be defined as a mark or a blemish resulting from a healed wound. All surgical incisions give rise to scars and approximately 15% have excessive scars. Some scars are thin lines which are almost unnoticeable, whereas others become abnormal when the amount of fibrosis is excessive or suboptimal or when it causes functional disability or aesthetic distress to the patient.

Background: This study investigated plasma sodium/potassium ratio, markers of oxidative stress, renal function, and endothelial dysfunction in hypertensive Nigerians.

Materials And Methods: Five hundred forty-nine volunteers consisting of three hundred and twenty-four hypertensive and two hundred twenty-five controls participated in this study. Blood samples were collected from the participants and were analyzed for electrolytes, markers of oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, renal function, and inflammation, using ion-selective electrodes, spectrophotometric, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods, respectively.

Data on the survival times of breast cancer patients in a Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

In a bid to assess the contribution of prognostic factors to survival times of breast cancer patients from day of presentation in Nigeria, a data was collected from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital Osogbo. This is a retrospective data culled from the case note files of the breast cancer patients. The survival time of the patients was recorded as the difference between the day of presentation and the day of last contact.
