Subjective and Objective Assessments of Post-traumatic Olfactory Dysfunction.

Traumatic brain injuries are the most common cause of olfactory dysfunction. Deficits in olfaction may be conductive or neurosensory in nature, with varying degrees of impairment resulting in a diminished quality of life and an increased risk for personal injury among patients. The aim of this research is to evaluate the results of the subjective and objective quantitative examinations of olfactory function in a group of patients with post-traumatic anosmia in order to predict its value in identifying olfactory deficits in clinical practice.

Affective temperament in women with functional aphonia.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to assess the affective temperament in women with functional aphonia.

Study Design: Cross-sectional.

Methods: Forty-one women with functional aphonia underwent an examination of affective temperament by means of the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa and San Diego Autoquestionnaire.

Parkison's disease causes damage to the central nervous system resulting in bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, rest tremor and dysarthric speech. In clinical terms dysarthria denotes the dysfunction of articulation, phonation and respiration. It is brought about by the impairment of neural paths innervating the speech apparatus, thus causing a decreased ability to communicate.
