Article Synopsis
  • This study aims to explore how age, lifestyle factors (like body mass index and exercise), and occupational activities influence the risk of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis in men aged 25-70.
  • Researchers interviewed 295 male patients with confirmed knee osteoarthritis and a control group of 327 men to gather data on their health habits, calculating odds ratios to assess risk factors.
  • Findings indicate that older age and higher body mass index significantly increase the risk of knee osteoarthritis, while heavy smoking surprisingly showed a decreased risk compared to non-smokers.

Therefore, hypofunction or hyperfunction of the HPA axis potentially threatens the life of the whole organism. Noncontrolled overproduction of its key regulators, CRH and ACTH, causes dysfunction of the stress system.
