Article Synopsis
  • Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic joint disease causing pain and stiffness, with variability in symptoms especially between genders.
  • Recent studies have highlighted the role of adipokines like leptin, adiponectin, and resistin in OA development, as these hormones affect joint cells and can link inflammation to bone and cartilage health.
  • Higher levels of certain adipokines are found in OA patients, with variations between sexes; males typically show increased levels of leptin and chemerin, while adiponectin may have a protective role, despite being reduced in OA cases.
