The effectiveness of an amphoteric cryogel (AAC) as an oral sorbent (enerosorbent) for the treatment of acute poisoning of small animals (rats) with heavy metals (HMs) was studied in in vivo experiments. The morphological structure of the cryogel was examined using scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and confocal microscopy. The use of the cryogel in the treatment of rats administered an LD dose of Cd(NO), CsNO, Sr(NO), or HgCl in aqueous solution showed their high survival rate compared to the control group, which did not receive such treatment.

Considered vestigial from the classic point of view, the vermiform appendix has long been the subject of intensive studies. The recent understanding of appendix function in the context of unique architecture and bacterial complexity and density allows considering it as a safehouse for intestinal biodiversity. This review analyzes and assesses the current state of scientific knowledge regarding the role of the vermiform appendix in normal gut microbiota maintenance as a crucial factor of host homeostasis.

One hundred and twenty-eight (128) rabbits were subjected to a surgical procedure to simulate the adhesion processes. After the simulation, the animals were divided into 4 groups (32 animals each), depending on the application of the methods of prevention: (1) control group (no anti-adhesives or electro-stimulation) (CG); (2) comparison group (applications of Seprafilm) (SF); (3) comparison group 2 (transdermal electric stimulation of the abdominal muscles) TES; (4) group (transdermal electric stimulation + Seprafilm) (TES + SF).
