Progressive hemifacial atrophy (PHA) and linear scleroderma (LS) are both rare conditions and defined by atrophy and/or sclerosis of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The ideal timing of reconstructive intervention in these patients is controversial. We compared the outcome and satisfaction of autologous lipofilling performed during active and stable phases of the diseases in adults.

Article Synopsis
  • - Sepsis is a complicated and serious condition, and this study aimed to improve prognosis and patient grouping by examining specific immune response biomarkers known as regulatory immune checkpoints.
  • - Researchers analyzed 12 immune response biomarkers in 113 patients with bacterial sepsis, finding that two biomarkers, IRAK-M and Galectin-1, were strong indicators of short-term (7-day and 30-day) mortality and could help categorize patients based on immune response.
  • - The study concluded that IRAK-M and Galectin-1 could serve as prognostic tools to identify different sepsis phenotypes, which may assist in treatment decisions and future clinical trials aimed at targeted therapies.

Background: Varus posteromedial rotatory instability is a typical pattern of elbow injury that involves fracture of the anteromedial facet (AMF) of the coronoid, as well as injuries to the lateral ligament complex and the posterior bundle of the medial collateral ligament. Some authors support the idea that subtype II AMF coronoid fractures require fixation to restore elbow stability, but this topic is still an issue in the literature. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical and radiologic outcomes of arthroscopically assisted reduction and internal fixation (ARIF) of AMF fractures.

Radiocapitellar plica is a vestigial lateral portion of elbow synovial fold which may cause pain and snap in some cases. Plica is a difficult and misleading diagnosis and it could be easily confused with a common lateral epicondylitis however, they are different conditions. Pathology full understanding and proper diagnosis is essential to achieve patient's pain relief and functional recovery therefore, we reviewed the most relevant literature about radiocapitaller plica.

Case: Atypical fracture patterns, especially to the femur midshaft, have begun emerging since long-term bisphosphonate use was introduced. The same fracture pattern could arise around prosthetic hip implant, but the literature reports few cases regarding atypical periprosthetic femur fracture on previous total hip arthroplasty implant in patients on long-term bisphosphonate therapy. To our knowledge we report here the first case of atypical periprosthetic femur fracture arising after total hip arthroplasty implant on a previously identified but underestimated atypical femur pattern.

A 77-year-old woman reported a spiral right humeral shaft fracture, which was treated by closed reduction and fixation with elastic bundle retrograde intramedullary nail. Despite a proper closed reduction and a minimally invasive surgery obtained, nonunion arose. The patient refused the advised second surgical treatment.

The Grande Albergo Ausonia & Hungaria (Venice Lido, Italy) has an Art Nouveau polychrome ceramic coating on its façade, which was restored in 2007. Soon after the conservation treatment, many tiles of the façade decoration showed coloured alterations putatively attributed to the presence of microbial communities. To confirm the presence of the biological deposit and the stratigraphy of the Hungaria tiles, stereomicroscope, optical and environmental scanning electron microscope observations were made.
