Purpose: To find out the factors suggesting lumbar segmental instability in patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS) on conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods: Ninety-four patients with DS who underwent decompression surgery with or without fusion were selected. Patient demographics and findings on simple radiographs and MRI were analyzed.

This article highlights that the long-term and serial follow-up of adolescents with osteoid osteoma should be considered, even after complete excision of the nidus owing to the possibility of the delayed onset or progression of femur head and neck deformities or osteoarthritis. It is important to recognize the sequelae of osteoid osteomas, such as bone edema and new bone formation, which can alter the normal anatomy of the proximal femur. We report two cases of osteoid osteoma in the proximal femur, which showed progressive hypertrophy of the femoral neck after excision of the nidus and subsequent cam-type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), requiring additional osteochondroplasty procedures.

Background: Blood loss occurs significantly more frequently during total hip and knee arthroplasty than among any other type of orthopedic operation, which can sometimes lead to requiring a blood transfusion. Although allogeneic blood transfusion has been identified as a risk factor for postoperative surgical-site infection following arthroplasty, results are inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic meta-analysis to investigate whether having an allogeneic blood transfusion significantly increases the risk for surgical-site infection, particularly after total hip and knee arthroplasty.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability of pre-, intra operative, and postoperative limb alignment measurements and investigate the correlation between the measurements in biplanar medial opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy.

Methods: This study enrolled 59 knees undergoing biplanar opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy for primary medial osteoarthritis with varus deformity. Preoperative and postoperative standing lower leg radiographs and intraoperative fluoroscopic images were taken.

Purpose: This meta-analysis compared infection and revision rates in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA) who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Rates of superficial wound and deep periprosthetic infections were compared in the groups, as were whether revision rates associated with infectious and noninfectious causes differed in the RA and OA groups.

Methods: Studies were included in the meta-analysis if they (1) compared infection and revision rates after primary TKA in RA and OA patients; (2) directly compared superficial wound and deep periprosthetic infection rates in RA and OA patients who underwent primary TKA; and (3) reported the actual numbers of RA and OA patients who underwent TKA and developed postoperative infection and/or required revision.
