Clinical and Radiological Comparison between Ipsilateral and Contralateral Side Canal Decompression Using an Unilateral Laminotomy Approach.

Objective: To compare the clinical and radiological outcome of both sides using the unilateral approach.

Methods: Unilateral laminotomy was performed to achieve bilateral decompression. Thirty-nine patients who underwent this procedure were analyzed prospectively using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the visual analog scale (VAS) pain score to evaluate symptoms in both legs, and the radiological morphometric index to calculate the anteriorposterior diameter and midcanal width.

Analysis of anatomical variations of bone and vascular structures around the posterior atlantal arch using three-dimensional computed tomography angiography.

Object: The current study evaluates the incidence of anatomical variations of the V(3) segment of the vertebral artery (VA) and the posterior arch of the atlas (C-1). Failure to appreciate these types of anatomical variations can cause catastrophic injury to the VA during posterior approaches to the upper cervical spine.

Methods: In the present study, the authors analyzed the records of 1013 Korean patients who underwent computed tomography (CT) angiography to evaluate the incidence of anomalous variations in the third segment of the VA and to determine the incidence and morphometric characteristics of any detected posterior ponticuli.

Significance of diffusion-weighted imaging and apparent diffusion coefficient maps for the evaluation of pyogenic ventriculitis.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the significance of an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) modality for the diagnosis and follow-up evaluation of ventriculitis.

Patients And Methods: Twelve patients with ventriculitis were enrolled in this study. Diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance images (MRI) and ADC maps of the periventricular white matter, intraventricular collections detected in the third or lateral ventricles and normal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were obtained.

Analysis of accuracy of kyphotic angle measurement for vertebral osteoporotic compression fractures.

A reliable and reproducible measurement technique for the sagittal contour in vertebral fractures is paramount to clinical decision-making. This study was designed to determine the most reliable measurement technique in osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. Fifteen lateral radiographs of thoracic and lumbar fractures were selected and measured on two separate occasions by three spine surgeons using six different measurement techniques (centroid, Harrison posterior tangent method and 4 different types of modified Cobb method).

Hypoglossal nerve palsy after posterior screw placement on the C-1 lateral mass. Case report.

Atlantoaxial fixation in which C1-2 screw-rod fixation is performed is a relatively new method. Because reports about this technique are rather scant, little is known about its associated complications. In this report the authors introduce hypoglossal nerve palsy as a complication of this novel posterior atlantoaxial stabilization method.

Traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery treated by endovascular coil embolization.

We describe an exceptional case of a traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery (STA), which was treated with microcoil embolization of the anterior branch of the STA. We conclude that endovascular coil embolization can be an option of in the treatment of STA pseudoaneurysms.
