Incidence of lung cancer associated with secondary paracancerous changes is known to range 13.7-30%. Since they reveal such clinical symptoms as pneumonia or empyema, most out-patients with complicated cancers are referred to general wards.

[Surgical treatment of lung cancer complicated by intrathoracic inflammatory paracancrous alterations].

An experience with diagnostics and surgical treatment of 291 patients with complicated course of lung cancer is described with special reference to specificities of the clinical course, preoperative management and operation technique. It was shown that the purposeful preoperative management allowed the assessment of the patients, previously thought to be inoperable, to be revised in 25% of cases, and the frequency of postoperative complications and lethality to be reduced to 14 and 3.5% respectively.

Effect of experimental conditions on strong biocomplimentary pairing in high-performance monolithic disk affinity chromatography.

The effect of flow-rate on quantitatively determined binding parameters for several biocomplementary pairs in affinity mode high-performance monolithic disk affinity chromatography (HPMDAC) has been investigated using frontal analysis approach. Affinity interactions were evaluated from linearized adsorption isotherms and dynamic dissociation constants of the complexes K(diss.) and the theoretical adsorption capacities Q(max) were calculated.

[Nervous system lesions in the female workers of hydroponic hothouses].

A follow-up (1985, 1990, 1991) study revealed in female workers of hydroponic hothouses an increase of the incidence of nervous system diseases depending on the length of work (vegeto-vascular dystonia, angiodystonic syndromes, vegeto-sensory polyneuropathy). It is suggested that the main cause of nervous lesions in these cases was the complex effect of pesticides.

[The results of the surgical treatment of aortic coarctation in nursing infants with a sharp decrease in left ventricular pumping function].

Two-dimensional echocardiography was conducted in 24 patients, aged from 14 days to 12 months, suffering from coarctation of the aorta (CA) with the left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) less than 30%. The symptom of LV fibroelastosis was found in only 16.7% of patients.

[Cardiac function after radical correction of tetralogy of Fallot in infants].

A total of 20 patients (mean age 8.9 months) were examined after total correction of Fallot's tetralogy, 9 of them underwent transannular plasty and 11, separate right ventricular outflow tract plasty. Two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiographies were used to measure cardiac index, end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes, ejection fraction of the left and right ventricles, regurgitation fraction on the pulmonary and tricuspid valves, right ventricular-pulmonary artery pressure gradient.

[The surgical treatment of congenital heart defects in neonates and infants without using invasive study methods].

Echocardiographic analysis of 328 closed operations for aortic coarctation, patent ductus arteriosus, and congenital heart disease of the blue type with lower pulmonary flow in infants of the first year of life revealed diagnostic errors in 6 (2%) patients, this resulting in death of two patients. Surgery for congenital heart disease, which is based on the echocardiographic data without invasive diagnostic methods, requires proper patient selection. Quantitative two dimensional echocardiography allowed for higher accuracy of the preoperative diagnosis.

[Use of the laser in the combined treatment of suppurative diseases and complications].

The authors' experience with the complex treatment of 241 patients with different purulent diseases and complications shows that the application of laser improves results of the treatment and shortens the period of staying of the patients at the hospital.

[Errors in the diagnosis and treatment of acute intestinal obstruction].

Experience with the treatment of 224 patients with acute ileus is described. Direct correlation has been established between outcomes of the treatment and terms of staying at the hospital and surgery. Due to late consultation with a physician and diagnostic errors 29% of patients were admitted to the hospital later than in a day.
