Porcine Liver Decomposition Product (PLDP) was obtained by treating pig liver homogenate with protease and filling it into capsules. We have already confirmed from three clinical trials that PLDP enhances visual memory and delays memory recall, and we believe that its activity is due to various phospholipids, including phosphatidylcholine (PC). In this study, we clinically evaluated PLDP for depressive symptoms caused by a decline in cognitive function.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a brain disorder resulting from liver cirrhosis, and the study explores how gut microbiota influences its development.
  • Researchers analyzed fecal samples from patients with different liver conditions and identified specific bacteria like Streptococcus salivarius and Ruminococcus gnavus that are linked to HE and affect ammonia levels in the blood.
  • The findings suggest that combined treatments targeting these bacteria and monitoring bile acid levels could improve the effectiveness of rifaximin, a common HE therapy.

Objective: Conventional diagnostic methods are limited in their ability to differentiate destructive thyroiditis from Graves' disease. We hypothesised that serum diiodotyrosine (DIT) and monoiodotyrosine (MIT) levels could be biomarkers for differentiating destructive thyroiditis from Graves' disease.

Design: Patients with destructive thyroiditis (n = 13) and Graves' disease (n = 22) were enrolled in this cross-sectional study.

Background And Aim: Because covert hepatic encephalopathy (CHE) has been shown to affect the prognosis of cirrhotic patients, early diagnosis of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a prerequisite for the preservation of patients' quality of life and for prophylaxis of overt HE. The aim of this study was to identify a clinical parameter to predict impairment of cognitive function in cirrhotic patients with early-stage HE.

Methods: We investigated the data from 172 patients with cirrhotic or idiopathic portosystemic shunt (PSS) in phase II/III trials of rifaximin in Japan.

Aims: Rifaximin (RFX), a non-systemic antibiotic, improves liver/neuropsychological functions in patients with hepatic encephalopathy (HE). We aimed to investigate the clinical profiles associated with gut bacterial loads using exploratory data analysis and the effects of RFX on the gut microbiota of patients with HE.

Methods: We analyzed the data from 17 patients with HE who underwent fecal microbiota examination in phase II/III trials in Japan.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the impact of six weeks of electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) on the strength and size of the infraspinatus muscle in twenty non-athletic young adults.
  • Participants were divided into two groups: the EMS group underwent 18 sessions of stimulation while the control group did not receive any intervention.
  • Results showed significant increases in both the muscle thickness and cross-sectional area of the infraspinatus in the EMS group, indicating that EMS effectively promoted muscle growth over the six-week period.

Background: Few studies have examined the relationships between walking speed and gait cycle variability, and muscle strength and postural stability, with a focus on gender differences.

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine whether there are different factors affecting walking speed and gait cycle variability between men and women in community-dwelling older adults.

Methods: The subjects comprised 712 community-dwelling older adults (252 men, 460 women, aged 68.

Clinical studies were conducted to investigate the pharmacokinetics of roxatidine acetate hydrochloride capsules (ALTAT(®) CAPSULES) in children. In a single-dose pharmacokinetic (PK) study in pediatric patients aged between 6 and 14 years with acid-related diseases, 37.5 mg or 75 mg roxatidine capsules were given orally, and blood samples were collected to determine the plasma roxatidine concentrations.

We have developed a method for protein identification with peptide mass fingerprinting and sequence tagging using nano liquid chromatography (LC)/Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS). To achieve greater sensitivity, a nanoelectrospray (nano-ES) needle packed with reversed-phase medium was used and connected to the nano-ES ion source of the FTICR mass spectrometer. To obtain peptide sequence tag information, infrared multiphoton dissociation (IRMPD) was carried out in nano-LC/FTICR-MS analysis.
