Comparative effect of candesartan and amlodipine, and effect of switching from valsartan, losartan, telmisartan and olmesartan to candesartan, on early morning hypertension and heart rate.

Early morning hypertension and a high heart rate are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The DOHSAM study was designed to evaluate the effect of candesartan on early morning blood pressure (BP) and heart rate in hypertensives. We used a prospective, randomized, open-label design.

Measurements of exposure concentrations of benzene, toluene and xylene, and amounts of respiratory uptake.

With respect to benzene, toluene, and o-, m- and p-xylene contained in indoor air, this study determined the amounts of their uptake through the human respiratory system using the difference between concentrations in inhalation and exhalation, and examined their relationship to concentrations in blood and urine measured before and after exposure. At relatively high concentrations, respiratory absorption of these compounds tended to increase rapidly in the early stage of exposure but decrease after several hours. It was also confirmed that concentrations of these compounds in both blood and urine increased during the first 3 hours of exposure.

Aerobic composting of chips from clear-cut trees with various co-materials.

Swollen chips made from trees felled during clear-cutting were composted with various organic and inorganic materials in an aerobic composting reactor for 5 months and then piled for 5 months. The organic materials included chicken feces, urea, nitrogenous lime (calcium cyanamide, manure), and material rapidly composted from food garbage in 24-h bacterial fermentation, while the inorganic materials were coal ash and volcanic ash. In this paper, we first attempt to estimate the quality and degree of maturity of each compost from its chemical properties.
