147 patients with tumors of proximal extrahepatic biliary ducts were treated. By 118 patients only palliative surgery was possible. Tumor recanalisation and external biliary drainage was performed on 77 patients; 41 patients received transcutaneous transhepatic cholangiostomy as final treatment; endoprosthesis was inserted in 11 patients.

The mtDNA composition of Uzbekistan: a microcosm of Central Asian patterns.

In order to better characterize and understand the mtDNA population genetics of Central Asia, the mtDNA control regions of over 1,500 individuals from Uzbekistan have been sequenced. Although all samples were obtained from individuals residing in Uzbekistan, individuals with direct ancestry from neighboring Central Asian countries are included. Individuals of Uzbek ancestry represent five distinct geographic regions of Uzbekistan: Fergana, Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Qashkadarya, and Tashkent.

[Prophylaxis of recurrent multiple echinococcosis of the liver in children].

The article presents an experience with treatment of 47 children aged from 3 to 14 with multiple echinococcosis of the liver. The authors have made a comparative analysis of the antiparasitic remedies and of a wide spectrum bactericidal solution of Betadin. The results of microscopic, histological and electron microscopic investigations have shown Betadin to be highly effective and harmless for the intraoperative prophylactics of recurrent echinococcosis.

[Use of the glue composition TachoComb in forming the portosystemic anastomosis].

The Tachocomb plates were used by the authors in 15 patients for forming the proximal splenorenal anastomosis and selective decompression of the portal system. The data of sonography have shown the valuable functioning of the shunt in all the patients within the period from 6 months to 3 years. The proposed method provides reliable hemostasis during operation and prevents thrombosis of portosystemic anastomoses.

[The extraction of deoxypeganin from aqueous solutions with organic solvents].

Studies of deoxypeganin extraction with various organic solvents have shown that up to 88% of the agent can be easily extracted by chloroform if the medium pH values are 11-12.
