Article Synopsis
  • Some patients who undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA) for hip osteoarthritis may still exhibit a Trendelenburg gait, which involves a specific pattern of muscle contractions during walking.
  • The study analyzed 89 patients with a focus on hip muscle performance and pelvis movement to identify factors contributing to this gait, finding that 27% displayed the Trendelenburg gait.
  • Key findings suggest that poor performance in hip abductor and extensor muscles during early to mid-stance phases of walking is linked to difficulty in stabilizing the hip, highlighting the importance of these muscle functions after surgery.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have demonstrated efficacy over previous cytotoxic chemotherapies in clinical trials among various tumors. Despite their favorable outcomes, they are associated with a unique set of toxicities termed as immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Among the toxicities, ICI-related pneumonitis has poor outcomes with little understanding of its risk factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates hip dynamics during the golf swing in patients who have undergone total hip arthroplasty (THA), focusing on aspects like contact forces and muscle activity, which have not been previously reported.
  • Ten unilateral THA patients participated in motion capture tests, revealing that golf swings generated a rotation of 20-30° in both the lead and trail hips, with mean hip contact forces approximately 5.1 and 6.6 times their body weight.
  • The findings suggest that golf can be played safely after THA, as swings do not impose excessive forces on the hip prostheses, and adjustments to the swing could help reduce hip pain for patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study focused on establishing a reference value for the anterior center edge angle (ACEA) to aid in planning for periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and examined how pelvic rotation affects ACEA measurements on false profile (FP) radiographs.
  • - Researchers analyzed radiographic data from 61 patients who underwent PAO, finding that ACEA increased by 0.35° for each degree of pelvic rotation towards a true lateral view, and identified the ideal pelvic positioning range during imaging.
  • - The study concluded that an ACEA less than 13.6° on FP radiographs indicates insufficient anterior acetabular coverage, and emphasized the importance of precise positioning to minimize measurement errors in pelvic rotation, specifically

Association between baseline medications plus neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) plus platinum doublet remains unknown, despite several reported prognostic models. We used real-world data to investigate whether baseline medications plus NLR predict survival outcomes in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) receiving ICI plus platinum doublet. This multicenter, retrospective, observational study conducted in Japan between December 2018 and March 2021 used real-world data of consecutive patients with advanced NSCLC who received ICI (pembrolizumab or atezolizumab) plus platinum doublet as first-line treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Irregularities in the articular surface are common in collapsed femoral heads due to osteonecrosis, with a significant correlation between the degree of collapse and these irregularities.
  • A study assessed 76 femoral heads using microcomputed tomography, finding that 68 showed irregularities, primarily at the necrotic region's lateral boundary, and that more collapse (greater than 1.1 mm) was linked to increased irregularities.
  • Histological analysis indicated that even small degrees of collapse (<3 mm) led to cellular damage and abnormalities in the articular cartilage, suggesting that changes occur early on, before noticeable irregularities appear.
