Aim: This study aimed to compare the use of remimazolam and midazolam in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in Japan as a sub-analysis of data from an investigator-initiated clinical trial of remimazolam.
Methods And Results: Patients in two groups were matched using propensity score matching. We evaluated the time from the end of the gastrointestinal endoscopy until discharge, the time from the end of the procedure until awakening, and adverse events.
Objectives: In gastroenterology, sedation demand is increasing, although elderly patients are more prone to experiencing adverse events. Remimazolam, a novel ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine, may reduce recovery time after endoscopic procedures.
Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of the investigator-initiated trial, which investigated the efficacy and safety of remimazolam in gastrointestinal endoscopy (REM-IICT JP01).
We read with great interest the recently published article by Amiri et al., titled "Medical, Dental, and Nursing Students' Attitudes and Knowledge Toward Artificial Intelligence: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis." We would like to offer comments on certain aspects of the findings that we believe warrant further discussion.

Methods: This multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase III investigator-initiated trial included patients who underwent colonoscopy under sedation with remimazolam (initial dose: 3 mg; additional dose: 1 mg) or normal saline (placebo). The primary endpoint of the study was the successful sedation rate during colonoscopy, defined as achieving a Modified Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation (MOAA/S) score of ≤4 before the procedure, maintaining this score throughout colonoscopy, and requiring no more than five additional drug doses per 15 min.
Objectives: To compare the efficacy and safety of sedation with midazolam and remimazolam for colorectal endoscopy.
Methods: This single-center, two-arm, post-hoc analysis of the REM-IICTJP01 study investigated the efficacy and safety of remimazolam for gastrointestinal endoscopic sedation. We enrolled 40 and 208 patients who underwent colonoscopy under remimazolam and midazolam sedation, respectively, during the same period.
Introduction: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) requires adequate air infusion. However, cases of poor gastrointestinal wall extension due to frequent eructation have been reported. Sufficient gastrointestinal wall extension can be achieved by applying cricoid pressure during EGD.

Methods: We included 48 Japanese patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. For the procedure, an initial remimazolam dose of 3 mg and additional doses of 1 mg were administered, as determined in the phase II clinical study.
Background And Aim: Cold snare polypectomy (CSP) is a standard treatment for small colorectal polyps. This study examined the effect of different snare wire diameters on complete histological resection rate, resection depth, and CSP safety.
Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted at two institutions between June 2019 and March 2021.
Objective: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), Fisher syndrome (FS), and Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis (BBE) are immune-mediated neuropathies presenting with symptoms such as weakness, ophthalmoplegia, ataxia, and consciousness disturbances. Although the epidemiology of GBS and BBE in patients of all ages has been reported, childhood data have not been well-investigated. We aimed to determine the clinical features, therapeutics, and prognoses of childhood GBS, FS, and BBE in Japan.

Previous studies on colon ESD using the traction method used a small sample, single-center design, providing insufficient evidence of this procedure's efficacy.

We conducted an investigator-initiated clinical trial to determine the appropriate dose of remimazolam required for sedation during gastrointestinal endoscopy in Japanese subjects.
Methods: In this single-center, open-label, uncontrolled, phase II trial, a three-stage cohort investigated the appropriate initial and additional doses of remimazolam required for gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Pigmentary mosaicism of the Ito type, also known as hypomelanosis of Ito, is a neurocutaneous syndrome considered to be predominantly caused by somatic chromosomal mosaicism. However, a few monogenic causes of pigmentary mosaicism have been recently reported. Eleven unrelated individuals with pigmentary mosaicism (mostly hypopigmented skin) were recruited for this study.

We have developed a self-completion ESD (S-ESD) using Endosaber without requiring additional instruments or assistance. This prospective cohort study was conducted to investigate the feasibility of S-ESD for colorectal neoplasms.

We aimed to compare the diagnostic performance and visibility scores of HD and SD ultraslim endoscopes in EGC.
Materials And Methods: We used HD and SD ultraslim endoscopes to obtain 60 images with similar compositions of gastric environments.
Background: Chronic constipation is a significant factor in poor bowel preparation for colonoscopy. Macrogol 4000 plus electrolytes (Movicol, EA Pharma, Tokyo, Japan), containing polyethylene glycol (PEG) and electrolytes, have been used recently to treat patients with constipation. However, prospective studies on the use of macrogol 4000 for bowel cleansing for colonoscopy are lacking.
