The circadian clock regulates behavioural and physiological processes in a 24-h cycle. The nuclear receptors REV-ERBα and REV-ERBβ are involved in the cell-autonomous circadian transcriptional/translational feedback loops as transcriptional repressors. A number of studies have also demonstrated a pivotal role of REV-ERBs in regulation of metabolic, neuronal, and inflammatory functions including bile acid metabolism, lipid metabolism, and production of inflammatory cytokines.

Article Synopsis
  • Molecules in confined spaces, like those in large pores, behave differently than those in bulk, featuring an interface region and a core region.
  • A newly developed hybrid material, combining a highly mobile ionic liquid with a mesoporous metal-organic framework, exhibits impressive conductivity (4.4×10 S/cm) and low activation energy (0.20 eV), qualifying it as a superionic conductor.
  • This hybrid material shows exceptional ionic conduction, especially at low temperatures (<263 K), making it a promising candidate for solid-state electrolytes in electrochemical devices across a wide thermal range.

Derivatives of C-symmetrical bivalent phenylboronic acid exhibit several remarkable biological activities such as anti-herpes simplex virus (HSV)-1 and cytotoxic activities against Vero cells and they can reverse the effect of anticancer drugs. Novel symmetrical bivalent molecules were synthesized and their biological activities were evaluated in vitro using a human brain glioma cell line (U251) and a human carcinoma cell line (KB3-1). Among the tested compounds (1a-i), bivalent C-symmetrical phenylboronic acid derivative 1g showed the highest anti-proliferative activity towards both U251 and KB3-1 cells.

1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) has been known as a potent α-glucosidase inhibitor from mulberry leaves and considered beneficial in prevention of type 2 diabetes. Due to limited amount of DNJ in mulberry leaves, recent studies have focused in finding alternative source that can produce higher amount of DNJ. Previously, we produced a high DNJ-containing culture medium from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens AS385 and constructed a concentration method of bacterial culture medium using cation exchange column.

Background: Metatarsus primus elevatus (MPE), a dorsal elevation of the first metatarsal in relation to the lesser metatarsals on lateral-view radiographs, is an indicator of hallux rigidus. The angle between the articular surfaces of the base of the first metatarsal and the anterior part of the medial cuneiform (MCA) reflects the sagittal instability of the first tarsometatarsal (TMT) joint. MPE may also indicate instability of the first metatarsal.

Introduction: Calcaneal pitch angle and Meary's angle are commonly used to assess longitudinal foot arches on lateral-view radiographs. However, the methods used to obtain the talar, first metatarsal, calcaneal, and plantar axes differ across multiple reports, and no study has evaluated the reproducibility of these approaches. The aim of this study was to determine the most reproducible methods for radiographically evaluating longitudinal axes.

Behavioral studies using pharmacological tools have implicated histamine H receptors in cognitive function via their interactions with N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) in the hippocampus. However, little is known about the neurophysiological mechanism that underlies the interaction between H receptors and NMDARs. To explore how H receptor activation affects hippocampal excitatory neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity, this study aimed to examine the effect of H receptor ligands on both NMDAR-mediated synaptic currents and long-term potentiation (LTP) at synapses between Schaffer collaterals and CA1 pyramidal neurons using acute mouse hippocampal slices.

Background: In chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI), the instability of the ankle joint results in repeated microtrauma to the articular cartilage. How the lesion condition or stage is affected by the presence of lateral instability in medial osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) is unclear. We aimed to examine whether CLAI is associated with the size and staging of medial OLT on radiographs, magnetic resonance (MR) images, and arthroscopy.

Chelating resins immobilizing phosphomethylated polyethyleneimine (PM-PEI) with different phosphomethylation (PM) rates were prepared by using different amounts of both phosphonic acid and paraformaldehyde in the phosphomethylation of PEI immobilized on a methacrylate resin as a base resin. The extraction of many elements improved with increasing PM rate; REEs, Be, Fe, Mo, Ti, and V were quantitatively extracted at pH 2. The elution of the elements tended to become difficult with increasing PM rate.
