In this study, we investigated the protective effects of selected stilbene compounds (resveratrol, oxyresveratrol, gnetol, piceatannol, and pterostilbene) and their water-soluble derivatives (piceid, resveratrol polysaccharide, pterostilbene trisaccharide, and pterostilbene polysaccharide) against UVA-, UVB irradiation, tertiary-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH)- and hydrogen peroxide (HO)-induced injury in human epidermal cells.

In this study, we used a photosensitizer complex (Ce6-MnNPs-Chlorin e6 combined with up-conversion nanoparticles NaYF:Yb/Er/Mn) to investigate the therapeutic effectiveness of this treatment against oral cancer cells.

Behavior of Hydrolyzable Tannins after Oral Administration of the Extract to Rats.

The pericarp extract of (TBPE), which is rich in hydrolyzable tannins, has been reported to inhibit α-glucosidase and glycation reactions. We investigated the behavior of hydrolyzable tannins and related metabolites after administration of TBPE to rats. Using high pressure liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectroscopy (HPLC-ESI-MS/MS), 12 ellagitannin metabolites, such as urolithins and 6 gallotannin metabolites, produced in the collected plasma and urine were quantified.

Abstract Background/purpose: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has influenced the dental education in Osaka Dental University. The purpose of this study was to summarize the impact of COVID-19 on student performance and the current more appropriate teaching methods by comparing the changes in various oral pathology exam results before and after COVID-19.

Materials And Methods: The experimental and control groups consisted of second year students in the department of dentistry at our university for the years 2019 (136 people) and 2020 (125 people).

Role of Bile-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Hepatocellular Proliferation after Partial Hepatectomy in Rats.

Although liver regeneration has been extensively studied, the effects of bile-derived extracellular vesicles (bile EVs) on hepatocytes has not been elucidated. We examined the influence of bile EVs, collected from a rat model of 70% partial hepatectomy (PH), on hepatocytes. We produced bile-duct-cannulated rats.

Multidimensional analysis of schoolteachers' occupational stress by the New Brief Job Stress Questionnaire: focusing on gender differences.

This study investigated teachers' occupational stress using a comprehensive job stress questionnaire, or the New Brief Job Stress Questionnaire, while considering gender differences. A total of 1,825 elementary and junior high school teachers participated in the study. The results revealed that female teachers significantly exhibited more psychological and physical stress reactions and perceived less job resource availability than did male teachers.

COVID-19 vaccination program in Cambodia: Achievements and remaining challenges.

Since Cambodia has been recognized as one of the low- and middle-income countries with a successful COVID-19 vaccine program, its program approaches were reviewed based mainly on press articles and announcements from the Ministry of Health. From the beginning, the government's proactive approach to securing vaccines and its flexibility prior to WHO Emergency Use Listing (EUL) contributed greatly to the success of the program. Vaccines were provided by COVAX and other countries, but more than half of the vaccines secured were Chinese vaccines purchased with government funds.

EDTA-induced pseudothrombocytopenia in hematopoietic stem cell donor.

We herein report a case of peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) involving a donor with EDTA-induced pseudothrombocytopenia (PTCP). The apheresis product was inspected for 24 h and there was no platelet clumping or thrombocytopenia. In the first 14 months after PBSCT, there has been no transfer of PTCP symptoms.

Infection-Induced Elevated Plasma Perampanel in a Patient with Hemimegalencephaly.

Perampanel is a noncompetitive, -amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid glutamate receptor antagonist. Herein, we report a case of increased perampanel plasma concentration and impaired consciousness triggered by an infection. The patient had refractory epilepsy associated with hemimegalencephaly.

Application of Online NIR Spectroscopy to Enhance Process Understanding and Enable In-process Control Testing of Secondary Drying Process for a Spray-dried Solid Dispersion Intermediate.

Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was utilized to determine the endpoint of secondary drying process (post primary spray drying) of Spray-Dried Intermediates (SDI). In addition, NIR methods have been developed to quantify residual solvents (acetone and water), which are in-process controls (IPCs), and assay on the spray dried intermediate, thereby minimizing the need for off-line sample testing. NIRS calibration models were built with Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression for samples from several statistically designed experiments.

Depressive symptoms and stress among nurses in the COVID unit: A 7-month cohort study.

Aim: Previous studies have reported high prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among frontline nurses caring for COVID-19 patients. Yet, only a limited number of prospective studies examining nurses' mental health problems have been performed. The present study aimed to examine depressive symptoms and COVID-19-related stresses among nurses working specifically in a hospital COVID unit over a 7-month period.

To establish precision medicine, we examined pharmacoresistance of focal epileptic spasms (ES), generalized ES, and generalized ES combined with focal seizures, diagnosed based on the revised seizure classification of ILAE in 2017.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective nationwide study in Japan on the long-term seizure outcome of ES.

The tobacco virus resistance gene N contains four introns. Transient expression of transcripts from an N transgene containing these introns and driven by the native promoter in the presence of the elicitor of tobacco mosaic virus resulted in its increased expression. The requirement of the native promoter, the elicitor, or the individual introns for enhanced expression of N has not been fully studied.

The chylous turbidity of blood samples is one of the causes of false-high hemoglobin (Hgb) concentration measurements by the colorimetric method, which has been widely applied in hematology analyzers. In such cases, additional manual procedures are required to correct Hgb concentrations. We therefore examined the effectiveness of an optical method for measuring Hgb concentrations in samples with chylous turbidity using Hgb-O in the reticulocyte channel equipped in XN-series analyzers (Sysmex, Kobe, Japan).

The Combination of Panoramic Imaging and Waters' Projection Contributes to the Diagnosis of Odontogenic Maxillary Sinusitis.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of adding Waters' projection to panoramic imaging compared with panoramic imaging or Waters' projection alone. Maxillary sinusitis in 106 patients (206 sinuses) was retrospectively assessed with panoramic imaging, Waters' projection, and computed tomography imaging by two oral radiologists.
