Objectives: The goal of this study is to assess the safety and efficacy of mechanical lead extraction utilizing the Evolution system.
Background: Compared with other techniques commonly used for lead extraction, data regarding the safety and efficacy of mechanical lead extraction using the Evolution system is limited and needs further evaluation.
Methods: Between June 1, 2009 and September 30, 2016, we retrospectively analyzed 400 consecutive patients who exclusively underwent mechanical lead extraction utilizing the Evolution system.

Management of diabetic patients with heart failure is a complex endeavor. The initial reluctance to use metformin in these patients has given way to a broader acceptance after clinical trials and meta-analyses have revealed that some of the insulin-sensitizing agents lead to adverse cardiovascular events. We have proposed that an increase of substrate uptake by the insulin-resistant heart is detrimental because the heart is already flooded with fuel.

The aim of our study was to determine whether LA mechanical dyssynchrony as evaluated by speckle tracking echocardiography can predict outcome of PVI ablation procedure in patients with paroxysmal AF.
Methods: Twenty-five patients (age 58 ± 11 years, [mean ± standard deviation], 17 males) with paroxysmal AF who met specific enrollment criteria pertaining to clinical presentation and follow-up, assessment of LA mechanical dyssynchrony, and strategy of catheter ablation procedure were enrolled.
