Hereditary hemochromatosis is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by dysregulated iron homeostasis resulting in body iron overload. Hemochromatosis leads to excessive iron deposition in the parenchymal cells of different body organs, resulting in the compromise of their normal functioning in genetically predisposed patients. It presents in genetically predisposed male patients aged between 40 and 70 years.

A 64-year-old male with a history of congestive heart failure (CHF), coronary artery disease status post two stents in 2014, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage III, was admitted for acute exacerbation of CHF. Treatment started with blood pressure control and high-dose diuretics. While the patient's volume status improved, his clinical status declined, and he required a dobutamine infusion.

Clinically, available synthetic chemotherapeutics in the treatment for leishmaniasis are associated with serious complications, such as toxicity and emergence of resistance. Natural products from plants can provide better remedies against the Leishmania parasite and can possibly minimize the associated side effects. In this study, various extracts of the callus cultures of Artimisia scoparia established in response to different plant growth regulators (PGRs) were evaluated for their anti-leishmanial effects against Leishmania tropica promastigotes, followed by an investigation of the possible mechanism of action through reactive apoptosis assay using fluorescent microscopy.
