This study aimed to externally validate two 10-year stroke risk prediction models: one developed in Korea (Model 1) and the other in China (Model 2), using community-based cohort data. Data from 8432 participants in Model 1 and 8915 participants in Model 2 were analyzed. Stroke risk was calculated based on each model's equations, and model performance was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).

The traditional method of monitoring hand hygiene (HH) based on specific indications does not ensure that HH is performed for all required indications during patient care. This study aimed to compare HH performance rates (HHPRs) based on specific indications versus overall patient care among nurses at a university hospital. The study retrospectively analyzed HH monitoring data for 1398 indications from 543 patients and 190 nurses.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigated how effective quaternary ammonium chloride (QAC) is at reducing bacteria on hospital privacy curtains, focusing on 66 high-touch polyester curtains over 28 days.
  • - The curtains were decontaminated either daily, twice a week, or not at all, and the results showed that curtains cleaned daily or twice a week had significantly lower bacterial levels compared to those that weren't cleaned.
  • - By the end of the study, daily cleaning resulted in notably fewer bacteria and lower levels of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), suggesting that regular decontamination can greatly improve hygiene in hospital settings.

Purpose: This study identified the epidemiological characteristics, including the size and major strains, of carbapenemase-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CP-CRE) and CP-CRE-related factors by comparing the characteristics of patients in the CP-CRE and non-CP-CRE groups and the CP-CRE and non-CRE groups.

Methods: This secondary data analysis study included 24 patients in the CP-CRE group, 113 patients in the non-CP-CRE group, and 113 in the non-CRE group. The size and type of CP-CRE were analyzed in terms of frequency and percentage, and CP-CRE risk factors were identified using multiple logistic regression analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 245 women monitored, 78.4% developed dyslipidemia during the follow-up, with an average onset of 5.3 years post-menopause.
  • * A higher triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL-C) ratio at the start of menopause was identified as a key risk factor, suggesting the need for early preventative measures for those at risk.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined cataract incidence and risk factors in individuals with diabetes using data from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study.
  • Over a 10-year follow-up, 19.1% of patients developed cataracts, with higher rates in females and an average onset age of 63.48 years.
  • The research identified age, HbA1c levels, and duration of diabetes as significant risk factors, highlighting the need for early eye examinations in high-risk individuals to mitigate the impact on quality of life.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the level of complete knowledge about hand hygiene indications among nurses working at integrated nursing care service wards.

Methods: A total of 127 nurses in eight integrated nursing care service wards completed structured sheets while observing a video based on six scenarios developed by the research team. Complete knowledge level was calculated as the percentage (%) of participants who responded correctly to all questions among participants.
