Teriparatide improves alveolar bone modelling after tooth extraction in orchiectomized rats.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate bone metabolism in the alveolar repair process in orchiectomized male rats treated with teriparatide.

Materials And Methods: A total of 78 rats were divided into three groups: 26 oriectomized rats treated with teriparatide (ORQTRAT), 26 untreated orchiectomized rats (ORQ), and 26 rats which had undergone sham surgical procedures (SHAM), all these animals underwent extraction of the central incisor tooth. Thus, a histological analysis was performed (42 days).

Evaluation of Osteoconduction of Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Ceramic in the Calvaria of Rats: Microscopic and Histometric Analysis.

(1) Background: Evaluate the osteoconduction capability of a biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramic composed of hydroxyapatite and β-tricalcium phosphate 60%/40% in a rat model. (2) Methods: In the calvarial bone of 54 adult male rats, 7-mm diameter critical size defects were performed. The animals were randomly allocated to three experimental groups according to the type of material: blood clot (BCG), blood clot covered with a bovine-derived collagen membrane (MBCG), and BCP ceramic covered with a bovine-derived collagen membrane (BCPG).

Effect of intermittent teriparatide (PTH 1-34) on the alveolar healing process in orchiectomized rats.

Objective: To evaluate intermittent teriparatide therapy's influence on the alveolar healing process in rats with induced osteoporosis.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-four male rats were divided into three groups: fictitious surgery (SHAM), bilateral orchiectomy (ORQ NT), and bilateral orchiectomy treated with teriparatide (ORQ TERI). Right upper incisor extraction was performed.

Oral Myiasis in a Patient With HIV Manifestations and Neurologic Toxoplasmosis Treated by Ivermectin.

Myiasis has been defined as a pathologic condition where dipterous larvae are lodged in mammalian hosts causing an infestation, which feeds on living or dead tissue for at least a certain period inside the host and develops itself as parasites. In humans, the most commonly affected sites are the nose, eyes, skin wounds, sinuses, lungs, ears, gut, gall bladder, vagina, nasal cavities, and rarely the mouth because the oral tissues are rarely exposed to the external environment. The etiology of oral myiasis is usually related to local factors such as poor oral hygiene, periodontal disease and labial incompetence, and systemic factors such as neurologic deficits.

Simplified Access for Reduction and Fixation of a Frontal Bone Fracture.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the alendronate and raloxifene influence in the alveolar healing process of osteoporotic rats.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-four female rats were divided in four groups: sham rats (SHAM), ovariectomized rats and no medical treatment (OVX NT), ovariectomized rats and submitted to alendronate treatment (OVX ALE), and ovariectomized and submitted to raloxifene treatment (OVX RAL). The histomorphometrical and immunohistochemical analysis was performed.

Bilateral Incomplete Cleft Lip.

Patients with cleft palate and cleft lip have severe functional and aesthetic problems, if this deformity is not treated properly and in time, can also cause psychological and aesthetic problems to the patients. This study reports a case of a 22-year-old patient with incomplete bilateral cleft lip, addressing aspects related to the diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical technique, and postoperative follow-up of the patient. Surgical treatment of cleft lip and cleft palate consists of suturing the lip and the palate, and aims not only the aesthetic restoration, but also the recovery of the phonation, mastication and respiration, as well as a normal psychosocial development.

Unerupted lower third molar extractions and their risks for mandibular fracture.

As every surgical procedure extraction of third molars can result in several complications, among them the mandibular angle fracture. Predisposing factors for fracture should be analyzed during and after the surgery. This paper aims to discuss the predisposing factors to the occurrence of mandibular angle fractures during and after the procedure for third molars extraction, as well as surgical principles to avoid this complication.
