Background: A variety of recent evidence exists about the clinical implication of low level of Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) in pregnancy. This glycoprotein is a protease, which releases the Insulin-like growth factor from IGFBP 4. Its role is a trophoblastic invasion of decidua, stimulation of cell mitosis and differentiation.

Background: Meningiomas are the type of central nervous system tumours, derived from the cells of the arachnoid membrane that are well constrained from surrounding tissues, mainly no infiltrating neoplasm with benign features. Meningiomas consist about 15-20% of all primary intracranial neoplasms.

Aim: The evaluation of the outcome of the operatively treated meningiomas in relation with the Karnofsky performance score, survival, recurrence, type of the surgical excision, histological type, mitotic count (MC), localisation and volume of the lesion.

Background: Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A), is a protease which releases Insulin-like growth factor. The role of this factor is stimulation of cell mitosis, differentiation and trophoblastic invasion of deciduas. Identification of patients with low PAPP-A (under 0.

The ABCB1 gene encodes the P-glycoprotein (Pgp) protein, which is thought to transport various antiepileptic drugs. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (C3435T) in exon 26 of this gene correlates with the altered expression levels of P-glycoprotein, range of drug response and clinical conditions. In order to investigate the influence of this polymorphism on the susceptibility to and efficacy of carbamazepine therapy, we evaluated the allelic frequency and genotype distribution of this variant in 162 epilepsy patients from the Republic of Macedonia.

Clozapine remains the drug of choice for patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia, who show a response rate of about 50% despite their unresponsiveness to other antipsychotics. Although treatment with clozapine can lead to considerable savings on bed days, the drug is underutilized for several reasons, perhaps most importantly because of the mandatory hematological monitoring. The Chempaq Express Blood Counter (Chempaq XBC) is a point-of-care device providing counts of white blood cells (WBC) and granulocytes based on a capillary blood sampling.

The meta-analysis is based on 16 randomized controlled trials of acamprosate, 18 of naltrexone and 7 of disulfiram. Acamprosate and naltrexone were 52% (RR = 1.52; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.

Objective: With transcranial sonography (TS), it is possible to visualize hyperechoic signals in the sub-stantia nigra (SN) in patients with Parkinson disease (PD). Our objective was to correlate the level of echogenicity in the SN with clinical status in patients with PD.

Methods: In our pilot study, using TS, we examined 15 patients with the confirmed presence of PD.

EEG is an important diagnostic method for epilepsies. EEG changes in patients with Parkinson's disease and epilepsy are not unknown or unexpected events. We investigated 250 Parkinson's disease patients.

In certain experimental conditions, bacteria form complex spatial-temporal patterns. A striking example of such kind was reported by Budrene and Berg (1991), who observed a wide variety of different colony structures ranging from arrays of spots to radially oriented stripes or arrangements of more complex elongated spots, formed by Escherichia coli. We discuss the relevant mechanisms of intercellular regulation in bacterial colony which may cause pattern formation, and formulate the corresponding mathematical model.
