Researchers are looking for the most effective ways to extract the bioactive substances of L. berries, which are capable of displaying the greatest range of biological activity, namely antimicrobial potential "against phytopathogens", antioxidant activity and nematocidal activity. This study provides detailed information on the chemical activity, group composition and biological activity of the extracts of juniper berries of 1- and 2-year maturity (JB1 and JB2), which were obtained by using different solvents (pentane, chloroform, acetone, methanol and 70% ethanol) under various extraction conditions (maceration and ultrasound-assisted maceration (US)).

Terpenes and their derivatives are natural antifungal and antimicrobial agents. In this paper, potential antifungal agents were developed on the basis of farnesol, geraniol, myrtenol, perillyl alcohol, cedrol and phytol. The synthesized compounds exist in aqueous solutions as stable associates ( = 142-216 nm, PDI 0.

The electrochemical polymerization of suitable monomers is a powerful way to create voltammetric sensors with improved responses to a target analyte. Nonconductive polymers based on phenolic acids were successfully combined with carbon nanomaterials to obtain sufficient conductivity and high surface area of the electrode. Glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and electropolymerized ferulic acid (FA) were developed for the sensitive quantification of hesperidin.

Article Synopsis
  • * Key findings included that catechol and α-amyrin were the main components in one species' ethanol extract, while flavone dominated another's flower extract.
  • * The greatest antimicrobial activity was found in extracts using methyl tert-butyl ether, with notable effects against phytopathogens, but the extracts had low antioxidant activity and could inhibit juvenile plant growth, particularly roots.
