Objective: To describe a rare sign of unilateral brain injury as a form of unwanted blink-associated contralateral eccentric saccades.
Methods: A 62-year-old patient who underwent an ischemic stroke affecting the entire right middle cerebral artery territory came to our attention 1 year after stroke, manifesting with transient contralateral conjugate gaze deviations associated with spontaneous blinking. We complemented the regular neurologic evaluation with brain MRI, study of evoked potentials, electroneurography of the facial nerve, and infrared video-oculoscopy.
Objectives: Bacterial biofilms have been found in the adenoids of children with recurrent acute otitis media (AOM) and persistent otitis media with effusion (OME). However, the possible difference in biofilm-producing bacteria (BPBs) between the adenoid surface at the nasopharyngeal dome (ND) and near the ostium of the eustachian tube (ET) has not been investigated. This study aimed to assess the difference in BPBs between adenoid biopsy specimens of the ND and those taken near the pharyngeal ostium of the ET in children with chronic adenoiditis with recurrent AOM and/or persistent OME.

Study Design: Retrospective study.
Setting: Quaternary referral otology and skull base center.
Objectives: Biofilms are organized bacterial communities that are playing an increasing role in otolaryngological diseases such as chronic or recurrent middle ear otitis and adenotonsillitis. Various cultural techniques are available to detect biofilm-producing bacteria (BPB), but microbiological analysis of bioptic staining is the reference diagnostic procedure. To our knowledge, the accuracy of nasopharyngeal swabs in diagnosing BPB has never been assessed.

Recently, different minimally invasive and conservative techniques have been developed for the treatment of the submandibular calculi. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of transoral surgical removal of large hiloparenchymal calculi by monitoring the trend for recurrence with clinical and ultrasonographic follow-up.

It has never previously been described in patients with ring chromosome 21 syndrome. We describe the video-assisted surgical rehabilitation of the left parotid duct in a child with ring chromosome 21 syndrome and a persistent and painful swelling of the left parotid region after the surgical ligation of the Stensen ducts because of drooling.
