This work represented the first step toward pioneering the use of a two-stage process for sucrose monolaurate (sucrose ester) production from lauric acid with high productivity and selectivity. In the first stage, lauric acid was firstly converted into methyl laurate via esterification, followed by the transesterification of methyl laurate into sucrose ester in the second stage. In this research, the first stage of process was primarily focused and thoroughly evaluated.

A preference for sons and a sex selection against females are widespread in vast regions of the world, including a great number of Asian and East European countries. However, while a robust son bias has been widely studied in several countries of these regions, much less attention has been given to other regions, such as Latin America. The aim of this paper is to compare gender preferences in twelve selected countries of Southeast Asia and Latin America at the beginning of the 21st century by calculating to what extent parents adapt their fertility behaviors to ensure the birth of a preferred sex.

Unlabelled: Evaluate the mid-term success rate of these stems in periprosthetic femur fractures and to analyze the complications observed with the use of these stems.

Methods: Thirty five patients that underwent hip revision surgery secondary to Vancouver type B2 and B3 periprosthetic femur fracture were evaluated. In all cases, modular fluted tapered stems were used.

Background: Cyclic alternating pattern (CAP) is the electroencephalogram (EEG) pattern described as a marker of sleep instability and assessed by NREM transient episodes in sleep EEG. It has been associated with brain maturation. The aim of this review was to evaluate the normative data of CAP parameters according to the aging process in healthy subjects through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Quality assurance (QA) and continuous quality improvement (CQI) are valued activities within health-care organizations. Quality assurance indicators as guidelines for quality practice usually are established intuitively. The purpose of this study was to determine an appropriate threshold for successful intubation in patients transported by air and to examine factors impacting this success rate.

Physiological and molecular biological properties of free, orthotopic grafts of rat extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscle were determined at 28-, 42-, and 76-days postgraft. cDNA probes for the rat fetal (B), liver (L), and muscle (M) isozymes of glycogen phosphorylase were used to assay isozyme mRNA levels. Regenerating muscle grafts did not express nonmuscle phosphorylase isozymes in vivo in contrast to primary rat skeletal muscle explants in vitro.

We have cloned the cDNA encoding human liver glycogen phosphorylase (glycogenosis type VI) from a fetal brain cDNA library. Liver(L) and muscle(M) phosphorylase cDNA probes were used to determine the relative abundance of mRNA encoding the L- and M-isozymes of phosphorylase in human fetal and adult tissues. The transcript encoding the M-isozyme is 3.
