Article Synopsis
  • Hyptis martiusii, known as "cidreira-do-mato," is a plant from Northeast Brazil traditionally used for treating gastrointestinal issues, and this study investigates its essential oil for anti-ulcer effects.
  • The essential oil, extracted through hydrodistillation, contains 24 chemical components, primarily mono and sesquiterpenes, and was tested on rodents with gastric ulcers induced by various methods.
  • Results showed that the essential oil significantly reduced ulcer formation and gastric acidity while affecting gastric motility, suggesting its potential as a natural remedy and prompting further investigation into its mechanisms.
