Introduction: Advances in the early detection and treatment of cancer have significantly improved the prognosis of patients with cancer. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are effective targeted treatments for various malignancies that act by inhibiting kinase activity. Although these drugs share a common mechanism of action, they differ in their targeted kinases, pharmacokinetics, and side effects.

Key Therapeutic Agents for Thymic Carcinoma in Real-world Clinical Practice.

Background/aim: Thymic carcinoma is a rare cancer with poor prognosis in unresectable cases. Treatment efficacy of carboplatin+paclitaxel (CP), lenvatinib, S-1, and sunitinib remains uncertain, with some patients experiencing increased post-treatment liver metastasis.

Patients And Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with metastatic thymic carcinoma who received chemotherapy between 2006 and 2023 at the National Cancer Center Hospital.

Association between lorlatinib blood concentration and adverse events and clinical impact of dose modification.

Objectives: Lorlatinib, a third-generation anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) inhibitor, causes distinct adverse events (AEs), including hyperlipidemia and central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Although dose modifications are recommended to manage these AEs, whether dose modifications can achieve optimal blood lorlatinib concentrations and reduce the incidence of lorlatinib-induced AEs remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated the association between lorlatinib exposure and AEs in each patient.

Electroretinographic Evaluations of Eyes With Endophthalmitis.

Purpose: To determine the physiological status of the retina of eyes with endophthalmitis by examining the electroretinograms (ERGs) recorded with a portable recording system and to determine whether the pretreatment ERG findings were correlated with the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after the treatment.

Methods: We examined the medical records of 118 eyes of 108 patients who were diagnosed and treated for infectious endophthalmitis at Saitama Medical University Hospital, Japan, between January 2015 to November 2022. Of these, we studied the 25 eyes of 21 patients who had been evaluated by electroretinography.

Purpose: To determine the physiological status of the retina by electroretinography (ERG) using skin electrodes and the RETeval system in eyes that had undergone pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with silicone oil (SO) tamponade. Methods: Wistar rats were intraperitoneally injected with cyclophosphamide (CPA, 75 mg/kg) to induce CIA and divided into six groups: (1) Control; (2) EDR 0%; (3) EDR 0.3%; (4) EDR 3%.

Prognosis of Pain After Stroke During Rehabilitation Depends on the Pain Quality.

Objective: Pain after a stroke interferes with daily life and the rehabilitation process. This study aimed to clarify the prognosis of pain in subgroups of patients with pain after a stroke using pain quality data.

Involvement of Mast-Cell-Tryptase- and Protease-Activated Receptor 2-Mediated Signaling and Urothelial Barrier Dysfunction with Reduced Uroplakin II Expression in Bladder Hyperactivity Induced by Chronic Bladder Ischemia in the Rat.

We aimed to investigate the relationship between mast cell (MC) infiltration into the bladder with urothelial barrier dysfunction and bladder hyperactivity in a chronic bladder ischemia (CBI) rat model. We compared CBI rats (CBI group; n = 10) with normal rats (control group; n = 10). We measured the expression of mast cell tryptase (MCT) and protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR2), which are correlated with C fiber activation via MCT, and Uroplakins (UP Ia, Ib, II and III), which are critical to urothelial barrier function, via Western blotting.

Relationship Between Deep Retinal Macular Vessel Density and Bipolar Cell Function in Glaucomatous Eyes.

Purpose: To evaluate the correlation between macular retinal function and the changes in the macular retinal vascular structure in glaucomatous eyes.

Methods: The study included patients with glaucoma who visited Saitama Medical University and underwent optical coherence tomography angiography, and multifocal electroretinographic examinations at the same time between February 2020 and April 2021. Correlations among the ocular parameters, macular vessel density, and multifocal electroretinographic parameters were evaluated using a mixed model.

A novel form of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for the reduction of dysesthesias caused by spinal nerve dysfunction: A case series.

Background: Current therapeutic interventions for dysesthesias caused by spinal cord dysfunctions are ineffective. We propose a novel intervention using transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for dysesthesias, and we present an in-depth case series.

Patients And Methods: Conventional high-frequency TENS and the novel dysesthesia-matched TENS (DM-TENS) were applied to 16 hands of nine patients with spinal cord dysfunction.

Intraocular Temperature Distribution in Eyes Undergoing Different Types of Surgical Procedures during Vitreous Surgery.

We assessed the bioequivalence of a single dose of 5-mg of esaxerenone administered as an orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) with the conventional oral tablet in healthy Japanese men. This single-center, open-label, randomized, two-drug, two-stage crossover, single-dose study was conducted in two parts. In study 1, both formulations were taken with water.

Effectiveness of ultrasound-guided pelvic floor muscle training in improving prolonged urinary incontinence after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.

Persistence of urinary incontinence (UI) after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is a bothersome problem because of its negative effect on the patient's quality of life (QOL). This study aimed to evaluate the effect of transperineal ultrasound (TPUS)-guided pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) on prolonged UI after RARP. Thirty men with stress UI persisting for > 1 year after RARP underwent biofeedback PFMT using TPUS once every 2-3 weeks for 3 months.

Cystectomy for patients with Hunner-type interstitial cystitis at a tertiary referral center in Japan.

Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of partial and total cystectomy in patients with refractory Hunner-type interstitial cystitis (HIC).

Methods: Patients with end-stage HIC who underwent supratrigonal partial cystectomy with augmentation ileocystoplasty (PC-CP) or total cystectomy with ileal conduit (TC-IC) were identified retrospectively. Changes in the 11-point numerical rating scale of bladder pain and in 7-grade quality of life (QOL) scores were evaluated.
