Intraperitoneal kisspeptin-10 administration ameliorates sodium arsenite-induced reproductive toxicity in adult male mice.

The current study investigated the protective ameliorative effect of intraperitoneally administered kisspeptin-10 (50 nmol/day) against reproductive toxicity in adult male mice challenged with 35 days of exposure to sodium arsenite in drinking water. Mice were divided into tap water control, sodium arsenite-alone (4 ppm and 10 ppm), kisspeptin-alone (intermittent and continuous) and combined (sodium arsenite +kisspeptin-10 intermittent and continuous) treatment groups. Results revealed protective effect of both intermittent and continuous kisspeptin doses on reproductive organs against sodium arsenite-induced toxicity.

Genetic Polymorphism of GSTM1 and GSTT1 and Risk of Prostatic Carcinoma - a Meta-analysis of 7,281 Prostate Cancer Cases and 9,082 Healthy Controls.

Genetic polymorphisms constitute one of the reasons behind the racial variation in prostate cancer occurrence. Published studies regarding genetic associations of glutathione S-transferase mu 1 (GSTM1) and glutathione S-transferase theta 1 (GSTT1) null deletion polymorphisms with prostatic carcinoma have generated inconsistent results among different populations. To date, even a single meta-analysis is not available representing the association of these genes with prostate cancer in different ethnic groups.

Role of honey in wound dressing in diabetic foot ulcer.

Background: Honey has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and role of honey as local wound dressing agent in the management of diabetic foot and its effect on rate of amputation.

Method: This prospective observational study was done in the general surgery department, Al- Noor Specialist hospital, Holly Makkah, KSA from 1st March, 2007 to 31st May, 2008 (15 months).

Maternal and foetal outcome in gestational diabetes.

Background: Gestational diabetes is impaired carbohydrate metabolism first diagnosed in pregnancy. Knowledge of diabetes dates back to centuries before Christ. Objective was to describe maternal complications during antenatal period and Maternal and neonatal outcome in gestational diabetes mellitus.

Single versus 3-dose antibiotic prophylaxis in clean and clean contaminated operations.

Background: Infection is a great problem in surgery and is encountered by all surgeons by nature of their craft; they invariably impair the first line of host defence. Bacteria may enter the wound during or after the operation and may be of endogenous or exogenous origin. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of preoperative antibiotic prophylaxis in reduction of postoperative wound infection in clean and clean contaminated procedures and to compare the cost of antibiotic prophylaxis in both groups.

Prevalence of necrotizing fasciitis during Ramadan and Hajj 1427-H.

Background: Necrotizing Fasciitis is a rare progressive disease which results in significant rate of mortality and morbidity if there is any delay in diagnosis and treatment. Objectives of this Prospective observational study were to share our experience of dealing necrotizing fasciitis in terms of different presentations, diagnosis, treatment and outcome during Ramadan and Hajj. It was conducted in the Department of General Surgery, Al-Noor Specialist Hospital, Holly Makkah, KSA during Ramadan and Hajj period from 1-8-1427 to 30-1-1428.
