Nosocomial infections or healthcare-associated infections, normally develops after the healthcare treatment in the hospital. Most of them are caused by infected medical devices. Plastics are the most common materials for manufacturing these devices because of their good processability, sterilization efficacy, ease of handling and harmlessness, however, it usually do not display antimicrobial properties.

Its application in reconstructive medicine depends on its biocompatibility, which is in a function of composition and surface properties. The insertion of a protein element in the composition of implants can improve the cell adhesion and the osseointegration.

Methods: A retrospective multicenter analysis of patients treated for AciCC of the parotid gland from 2000 to 2021 was performed. Exclusion criteria were pediatric (0-18 years) patients, the absence of follow-up and patients with secondary metastatic disease to the parotid gland.
Laryngocele is an uncommon benign cystic dilatation of the laryngeal saccule that communicates with the laryngeal lumen and contains air. On the basis of its localization, it can be traditionally classified in internal, external, or mixed. Usually unilateral and rarely bilateral, it may be congenital or acquired.

Purpose: Acinic cell carcinoma (ACCs) is uncommon malignant epithelial neoplasm of the salivary glands; the most common presentation is a well-defined painless solid mass. Diagnosis of ACCs is frequently complicated, due to its similarity with benign tumors.
Methods: A review of the literature available on ACCs was carried out.
Tapia syndrome is a rare complication after surgery, with ipsilateral paralysis of vocal cord and tongue due to extracranial involvement of recurrent laryngeal and hypoglossal nerves. Tapia's case report is extremely interesting for both the rarity of the reported cases and for the importance of an early rehabilitation. In a previous work, we reported a case of Tapia syndrome after cardiac surgery for aortic aneurysm, and the protocol of logopedic rehabilitation adopted.

Menezes et al. recently published an interesting study on cardiovascular prognostic factors for sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), analyzing therapeutic strategies with intravenous and intratympanic corticosteroids and evaluating the application of the Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation risk scale to classify risk in patients with SSNHL. In addition to intravenous and intratympanic corticosteroids, we would like to stress the role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).

Objectives: Effective planning of health policies requires the availability of accurate data, representing the burden of disease and risks to the diverse components of society. In Argentina, health information comes from the national risk factors survey (NRFS), which characterises the distribution of different risk factors. However, the NRFS has never collected information from residents living in slums, despite slums representing 10% of the population.

Also, the minimally invasive endoscopic approach is more respectful of anatomy and functionality of the middle ear, restoring and preserving mastoid mucosa, with faster healing time.
Objectives: To investigate the benefits that the systematic use of endoscopy in middle ear surgery has made.

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a common condition and affects the quality of life of approximately 16 % of adults in US and 10.9 % in Europe. Hyaluronan (HA) is a nonsulphate glycosaminoglycan found in the extracellular matrix of connective tissues, and plays an important role in the healing process and repair of mucosal surfaces.

Objective: To investigate the necessity of routine application of HBO therapy for ISSNHL.

Conclusion: This study reveals that tragal cartilage tympanoplasty is a reliable technique, it has a high degree of graft take, and the tympanic re-aeration and hearing results are satisfactory.
Objective: Cartilage is the grafting material of choice in advanced pathologies of the middle ear while the indications for its routine use remain controversial. The purpose of this study was to report our long-term experience with the 'tragal cartilage shield' tympanoplasty.
Byrsonima coccolobifolia leaf and stem extracts were studied in the search for possible leishmanicidal compounds using arginase (ARG) from Leishmania amazonensis as a molecular target. Flavonoids 1b, 1e-1g, 2a, 2b, and 2d-2f showed significant inhibitory activity, with IC50 values ranging from 0.9 to 4.

In spite of the large number of reports on fed-batch cultivation of E. coli, alternative cultivation/induction strategies remain to be more deeply exploited. Among these strategies, it could be mentioned the use of complex media with combination of different carbon sources, novel induction procedures and feed flow rate control matching the actual cell growth rate.

In this work, basic biochemical engineering tools were applied to enhance the production of BTL2 lipase cloned in Escherichia coli BL321 under control of the strong temperature-inducible λP(L) promoter. Initially, surface response analysis was used to assess the influence of growth and induction temperatures on enzyme production, in flask experiments.

Over the years, scientific knowledge has been consolidated regarding the most appropriate ways for the correct disinfection, and numerous guidelines have been issued for both digestive and respiratory endoscopes, whereas to date specific references to ENT endoscopes do not exist. The diagnostic ENT endoscope does not generally have an operative channel; it is shorter and thinner and has a much more frequent usage, also in the outpatient setting.

Cartilage is the grafting material of choice in advanced disorders of the middle ear while the indications for its routine use remain controversial due to the possible detrimental effect on post-operative hearing. Aim of the present study was to report personal experience with "tragal cartilage shield" tympanoplasty. The study focused on 306 adult patients (236 primary procedures and 70 revisions from January 2003 to June 2007).

Objective: We prospectively evaluated the efficacy and morbidity of monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency volumetric tissue reduction (RFVTR) of inferior turbinates during a 20-month follow-up.
Methods: The study was conducted on 150 patients randomly assigned into two groups of 75 each. In group A, we used the bipolar device "Coblator II ENT" (Arthrocare Corp, Sunnyvale, CA) and in group B the monopolar device Somnoplasty (Somnus Medical Technologies, Inc, Sunnyvale, CA).
Objectives: Inferior turbinate hypertrophy is one of the major causes of nasal airway obstruction. Medical treatment often produces insufficient improvements. In these cases, surgical reduction of inferior turbinates can be proposed.
