Background: Hemoglobin G-Siriraj is a rare hemoglobin variant caused by a β-globin gene mutation (HBB: c.22G>A). The focus of this paper is aimed mainly at the chromatographic and electrophoretic properties of hemoglobin G-Siriraj for a presumptive identification.

Context: Nowadays, Perovskite materials with diverse compositions and structures have garnered significant attention for their potential applications across various industrial and technological fields. Here, we investigated the structural, electronic, optical, thermodynamic, thermoelectric, and magnetic properties of perovskite PrFeO using density functional theory and Monte Carlo simulations. The optimization results demonstrate that the ferromagnetic phase is more stable than the antiferromagnetic phase.

Radiation protection challenges in the upgrade, autopsy and disposal of the LHC beam dump.

The upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider spare beam dumps (Target Dump External, TDE) and the autopsy of the old operational TDE required to perform several activities in a high-radiation environment posing significant radiation protection challenges due to the residual activation of the equipment. To ensure high safety standards and to respect the ALARA principle, these challenges were addressed using the advanced Monte Carlo techniques to predict the residual ambient dose equivalent rate and the radionuclide inventory at different steps of the interventions. The CERN HSE-RP group makes extensive use of the FLUKA and ActiWiz codes to produce accurate estimates.

CERN-MEDICIS: A Review Since Commissioning in 2017.

The CERN-MEDICIS (MEDical Isotopes Collected from ISolde) facility has delivered its first radioactive ion beam at CERN (Switzerland) in December 2017 to support the research and development in nuclear medicine using non-conventional radionuclides. Since then, fourteen institutes, including CERN, have joined the collaboration to drive the scientific program of this unique installation and evaluate the needs of the community to improve the research in imaging, diagnostics, radiation therapy and personalized medicine. The facility has been built as an extension of the ISOLDE (Isotope Separator On Line DEvice) facility at CERN.

Draft Genome Sequences of Six Lactobacillus gasseri and Three Strains Isolated from the Female Bladder.

Lactobacilli are dominant members of the healthy female bladder microbiota. Here, we report the complete genome sequences of six and three strains isolated from catheterized urine samples. These genomes are the first publicly available sequences of the species from the bladder.

Background: The authors report a clinical case where biological interference rendered the electrophoretic trace of serum proteins obtained by capillary electrophoresis as uninterpretable.

Methods: Electrophoresis of serum proteins and immunotyping immunoassay were performed on Capillary 2 Flex Piercing® Sebia.

Results: A 72-year-old male patient was hospitalized in the clinical hematology department for deep lymphadenopathies with hepatocellular failure.

Interpretation Difficulties of Serum Immunofixation Test in Immunoglobulin D Multiple Myeloma with Hidden Lambda Light Chains.

Background: We report a case of immunoglobulin (Ig) D myeloma with hidden lambda light chains in a patient whose immunofixation test was very difficult to interpret: the IgD reacts with the anti-δ heavy chain antiserum but does not react with anti-lambda antiserum. The band in the D heavy chain lane is unmatched in light chain lanes and the band in lambda light chain lane migrates higher.

Methods: To distinguish between heavy chain disease and immunoglobulin with "hidden" light chains, the sample was exposed to a very high concentration of anti-lambda and anti-kappa antisera for 48 hours.

[Positivity threshold value for cardiac troponin lc in the diagnosis of perioperative myocardial infarction after on-pump cardiac surgery in adult patients].

Introduction: This prospective study was conducted at the Laboratoy of Biochemistry of the HMIMV, Rabat, over a period of 1 year. It aimed to analyse the kinetics of troponin lc (cTnl) after on-pump cardiac surgery in order to establish threshold values for the diagnosis of perioperative myocardial infarction.

Methods: The study included 58 patients who had undergone on-pump valvular surgery or on-pump coronary artery bypass surgery.

We investigated maternal obesity in inbred SM/J mice by assigning females to a high-fat diet or a low-fat diet at weaning, mating them to low-fat-fed males, cross-fostering the offspring to low-fat-fed SM/J nurses at birth, and weaning the offspring onto a high-fat or low-fat diet. A maternal high-fat diet exacerbated obesity in the high-fat-fed daughters, causing them to weigh more, have more fat, and have higher serum levels of leptin as adults, accompanied by dozens of gene expression changes and thousands of DNA methylation changes in their livers and hearts. Maternal diet particularly affected genes involved in RNA processing, immune response, and mitochondria.

[Fortuitous detection of composite heterozygous S/C sickle cell disease].

Composite S/C sickle cell disease accounts for 20%-30% of major sickle cell syndromes. We report a case of fortuitous detection of composite heterozygous S/C sickle cell disease in the context of retinal detachment. The patient had been hospitalized in the Department of Ophthalmology for treatment-resistant decreased visual acuity detected 06 months before.

The lungs receive the entire venous drainage of the body. This explains the high incidence of pleuropulmonary metastases originating from several cancers. The goal of this is to study the clinical manifestations of pleuro-pulmonary metastases originating from extra-thoracic cancers.

Dynamical patterns of human postural responses to emotional stimuli.

Postural displacements in response to emotional activation have recently been proposed as a direct and objective index of approach-avoidance behavior in humans. Here, we present the results of an experiment designed to assess spontaneous postural responses to discrete affective pictures, briefly presented in random order of valence. Our findings question the interpretation of phasic postural responses to emotional stimuli as approach-avoidance behavior.
