Identifying Drug Prescription in Newly Diagnosed Hypertension Patients in India.

This study evaluated initial antihypertensive drug prescription patterns in Indian healthcare settings. An observational, cross-sectional, prospective prescription registry analyzed prescriptions for 4723 newly diagnosed hypertension patients. Additionally, it investigated the extent to which physicians adhered to either European or Indian hypertension guidelines.

Unique Pharmacological Properties and Safety Profiles of Loop Diuretics.

Loop diuretics are regarded as essential for the treatment of edematous conditions in heart failure, cirrhosis, and renal disease. The principal mechanism of action involves inhibiting the reabsorption of ions (Na+, 2Cl-, and K+) from the ascending loop of Henle. The pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) features of the commonly used diuretics (torsemide, furosemide, and bumetanide) influence the selection of diuretics in various disease states and dosing regimens.

Hughes‒Stovin Syndrome.

We present an extremely rare case of Hughes‒Stovin syndrome, of which we believe <60 cases have been reported in English medical literature. We wish to draw the attention of our fellow cardiologists to consider this when coming across patients with pulmonary artery aneurysm in their clinical practice. Appropriate treatment, if instituted promptly and early in the course of the disease, has the potential to induce remission.

Pulmonary Hypertension, an Echo Assessment: Is it Arterial or Venous?

Introduction: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling, right heart failure, and reduced survival. PH can be PH without left ventricular (LV) dysfunction - pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) - (Dana point Class I) and PH with LV dysfunction - pulmonary venous hypertension (PVH) - (Dana point Class II). Whatever the underlying cardiac disease, the presence of PH in patients with heart failure is associated with poor prognosis.

Coronary artery disease and diabetes - Management during Ramadan.

Ramadan is the Islamic holy month of fasting and practiced by all adult Muslims all over the world at the same time simultaneously. Although people who are ill or diabetics with coronary heart disease are exempted from fasting, they still desire to fast and this is a challenge to themselves and the treating physician. We performed a systematic review of the available Medline English literature on the subject from January 1982 to December 2014 so as to help guide physicians in managing these patients.

Prevalence of diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes and hypertension in India--results from the Screening India's Twin Epidemic (SITE) study.

Objective: Despite the rising number of patients with diabetes and hypertension in India, there is a dearth of nationwide, comprehensive prevalence data on these diseases. Our study aimed at collecting data on the prevalence of diabetes and hypertension and the underlying risk factors in various outpatient facilities throughout India.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was planned to be conducted in 10 Indian states, one state at a time.
