Nocturnal hypoglycemia is a serious complication of insulin-treated diabetes, which commonly goes undetected. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices have enabled prediction of impending nocturnal hypoglycemia, however, prior efforts have been limited to a short prediction horizon (~ 30 minutes). To this end, a nocturnal hypoglycemia prediction model with a 6-hour horizon (midnight-6 am) was developed using a random forest machine- learning model based on data from 10,000 users with more than 1 million nights of CGM data.

However, hospital performance factors associated with mortality in HF patients have not been examined. We aimed to identify these using exploratory factor analysis and assess the relationship between these factors and 7-day, 30-day, and in-hospital mortality among HF patients in Japan.

Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (Hif-1α) is a key molecule in IPC, and roxadustat (RXD), a first-in-class prolyl hydroxylase domain-containing protein inhibitor, has been recently developed to treat anemia in patients with chronic kidney disease. Thus, we investigated whether RXD pretreatment protects against I/R injury.

DPP (Dipeptidyl peptidase)-4 inhibitor has been reported to regulate Nox4 expression in adipose tissues. However, its effects on Nox4 in cardiac hypertrophy are still unclear.

Objectives: The risk of spinal cord injury after thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm repair increases when the segmental arteries (SAs) in the critical segment are sacrificed. Such critical SAs cannot be reconstructed when performing thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). We aimed to elucidate extrathoracic collaterals to the critical SAs (T9-L1) that develop after TEVAR.

PTEN acts through posterior localization on the plasma membrane, but the mechanism for this accumulation is poorly understood. Here we developed an in vitro single-molecule imaging assay with various lipid compositions and use it to demonstrate that the enzymatic product, PI(4,5)P, stabilizes PTEN's membrane-binding.

So-called "cavernous hemangioma" is categorized as VM. VM rarely involves the mucous membranes of the sinonasal cavity and typically arises unilaterally from the sinonasal cavity.

We investigated whether the discharge use of spironolactone could be associated with better long-term outcomes among patients with HF with mid-range EF (HFmrEF).
Methods And Results: We analysed HFmrEF (left ventricular EF 40-49%) patients enrolled in the Japanese Cardiac Registry of Heart Failure in Cardiology, which prospectively studied the clinical characteristics, treatments, and long-term outcomes of patients hospitalized due to HF.
Background: Right anterior sectionectomy is complex in comparison to other liver resections. Thus, the operation has not been widely performed via a laparoscopic approach. We herein present a purely laparoscopic method for right anterior sectionectomy using the standardized techniques.

The chick embryo, however, does not require motile cilia for L-R symmetry breaking. The diversity of mechanisms for L-R symmetry breaking among vertebrates and the trigger for such symmetry breaking in non-mammalian amniotes have remained unknown.

The crystal structures of two PACs, from Oscillatoria acuminata (OaPAC) and Beggiatoa sp. (bPAC), have been solved, and they show a high degree of similarity.

As the potential heterogeneity of mutations in melanoma has been reported, accurate detection of mutations are important. However, the genetic heterogeneity of acral melanoma-a distinct type of melanoma with a unique genetic background-has not fully been investigated.

Renal dysfunction causes phosphorus accumulation in the circulating plasma and leads to the development of CKD-mineral bone disorder (MBD). We have previously reported that type III Pi transporter-overexpressing transgenic (Pit-1 TG) rats manifest phosphate (Pi)-dependent podocyte injury.

Recent studies have reported that the frequency of spontaneous swallowing is useful in screening for dysphagia in acute stroke. The present study was aimed to investigate whether measurement of frequency of spontaneous swallowing for 2 minutes could predict independence on enteral feeding 1 week after admission in patients with acute stroke.

Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated global hypokinesis with an ejection fraction of 25%, prominent trabeculation and deep intertrabecular recesses, and apical aneurysm with multiple thrombi (10×13 mm in the inferior wall, 15×8 mm in the anterior wall). Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging showed an increased ratio of noncompacted (NC) to compacted (C) myocardium (NC/C ratio >2.

The present study investigated the histological changes of non-cancerous liver tissue obtained prior to interferon (IFN) therapy and after HCC development. A total of 669 HCV-infected Japanese patients who achieved sustained virological response (SVR) by IFN-based therapy were retrospectively enrolled.

Case Description: We report a unique case of tVAD precipitating SAH, from which the patient fully recovered, most likely because of the protective effects of an anomalously duplicated posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) origin. A 17-year-old Sumo wrestler experienced a brief loss of consciousness after an attack by an opponent to his neck.

Heterogony was confirmed in the cynipid genus Melika and Tang in rearing experiments with DNA barcoding. These experiments involved Tang and Melika, which was previously only described from the sexual generation adult. The first rearing experiment was conducted using unidentified asexual generation females collected from Blume, and gall formation by the sexual generation offspring was confirmed on folded or unfolded young leaves of .
