Background: Patients with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) suffer from several neuropsychological impairments. These mainly affect the frontal lobe and subcortical brain structures. However, a scale for the assessment of cognitive and neuropsychiatric disability in PSP is still missing.

Fungus Fighters: Wood Ants (Formica polyctena) and Their Associated Microbes Inhibit Plant Pathogenic Fungi.

Plant diseases cost the global economy billions of US dollars every year. The problem has mainly been addressed by using chemical pesticides, but recently, the use of ants has shown promising effects against plant pathogens. However, the mechanisms accounting for these effects have not yet been determined.

SEND-PD in Parkinsonian Syndromes: Results of a Monocentric Cross-Sectional Study.

Introduction: Neuropsychiatric symptoms in particular impair health-related quality of life (QoL) of patients with Parkinson's disease and atypical Parkinsonian syndromes. For this reason, various scales have been developed for detection of neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as the Scale for evaluation of neuropsychiatric disorders in Parkinson's disease (SEND-PD).

Objective: First, the objective of this study was to explore the interrelation between the SEND-PD and clinical parameters in patients with Parkinson's disease and thus confirm its validity.

Effects of prenatal exercise interventions on maternal body composition: A secondary analysis of the FitMum randomized controlled trial.

The main objective of the study was to investigate the effects of prenatal exercise interventions on maternal body composition at 28 weeks gestation and 7-14 days after delivery. We also explored associations between physical activity (PA) per se and body composition. This study presents secondary outcomes of the FitMum randomized controlled trial, which included healthy inactive pregnant women at gestational age ≤ 15+0 weeks.

Effects of Physical Activity on Blood Lipids and Hemoglobin A1c in Healthy Pregnant Women: The FitMum Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: Maternal blood lipid and glucose concentrations during pregnancy affect fetal growth and the risk of pregnancy and delivery complications. We aimed to investigate the effects of physical activity (PA) during pregnancy on maternal blood lipid and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) concentrations. We hypothesized that higher PA was associated with improved lipid profile and glycemic control.

Correlation of Comorbidities and Variability of Tics in Children with Chronic Tic Disorder.

Objective: Chronic tic disorder (CTD) is characterized by the presence of motor and/or phonic tics, and is often accompanied by comorbidities, where obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are the most predominant. The aim of this study was to investigate a correlation between comorbidities and variability of tics in children with CTD.

Method: A cross-sectional study was completed on a clinical cohort recruited from the Danish National Tourette Clinic at Herlev Hospital.

Ethics of care in technology-mediated healthcare practices: A scoping review.

Background: Introducing new technologies into healthcare practices may challenge professionals' traditional care cultures. The aim of this review was to map how the 'ethics of care' theoretical framework informs empirical studies of technology-mediated healthcare.

Method: A scoping review was performed using eight electronic databases: CINAHL with full text, Academic Search Premier, MEDLINE, the Philosopher's Index, SocINDEX with Full Text, SCOPUS, APA PsycInfo and Web of Science.

Clarifying the Differences between Patients with Organic Tics and Functional Tic-Like Behaviors.

Due to the global increase in the number of patients with Functional Tic-Like Behaviors (FTLB), it has become increasingly important to find reliable differences between this patient group and patients with organic tics (OTs), which can be used in differential diagnosis. The purpose of this retrospective study was to critically examine both established and suggested differences between the patient groups. A total of 53 FTLB patients and 200 OT patients were included.

Effects of prenatal exercise on gestational weight gain, obstetric and neonatal outcomes: FitMum randomized controlled trial.

Background: To investigate the effects of two different exercise interventions during pregnancy on gestational weight gain (GWG) and obstetric and neonatal outcomes compared to standard care. Additionally, we aimed to improve standardization of GWG measurements by developing a model to estimate GWG for a standardized pregnancy period of 40 weeks and 0 days accounting for individual differences in gestational age (GA) at delivery.

Methods: In a randomized controlled trial we compared the effects of structured supervised exercise training (EXE) three times per week throughout pregnancy versus motivational counselling on physical activity (MOT) seven times during pregnancy with standard care (CON) on GWG and obstetric and neonatal outcomes.

Implementing wood ants in biocontrol: Suppression of apple scab and reduced aphid tending.

Background: Ants can become efficient biocontrol agents in plantation crops as they prey on pest insects and may inhibit plant pathogens by excreting broad-spectrum antibiotics. However, ants also provide a disservice by augmenting attended honeydew producing homopterans. This disservice may be avoided by offering ants artificial sugar as an alternative to honeydew.

Pathogenic variants in the Parkin-gene () are among the most common genetic causes of early onset Parkinson's disease (EOPD). Patients with EOPD can present with atypical clinical features and misdiagnosis is frequent. Here, we report a clinical phenotype with atypical signs and symptoms of a 35-year-old male patient with EOPD caused by a compound heterozygous -gene deletion of exons 2 and 4.

Analysis of Parkinson's Disease Outpatient Counselling for Advance Directive Creation: A Cross-Sectional Questionnaire-Based Survey of German General Practitioners and Neurologists.

A major proportion of people with Parkinson's disease (PwP) in Germany has written an advance directive (AD). Unfortunately, these ADs are unclear for PD-specific endpoints. We previously established consensus-based recommendations for disease-specific content of an AD in PwP.

Analysis of Transition of Patients with Parkinson's Disease into Institutional Care: A Retrospective Pilot Study.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease which gives a person a high risk of becoming care-dependent. During disease progression, the amount of care concerning activities of daily living can increase, possibly resulting in transition of the people with Parkinson's disease (PwP) to a care facility. However, there is a lack of knowledge concerning the factors leading to institutionalization of PwP and the consequences for them and their informal caregivers.

Lessons for child-computer interaction studies following the research challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been experienced differently in and within individual countries and thus has had a different impact on the individual researchers in the child-computer interaction studies. There were several challenges that our research group experienced during the pandemic period, with a rapid transition to digital working conditions and a society managing altered living conditions. The changes happened on all levels of the society, and they affected our key participants - children, teachers, designers of children's digital books and publishers.

The 3F Library: Fluorinated Fsp -Rich Fragments for Expeditious F NMR Based Screening.

Fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD) is a popular method in academia and the pharmaceutical industry for the discovery of early lead candidates. Despite its wide-spread use, the approach still suffers from laborious screening workflows and a limited diversity in the fragments applied. Presented here is the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of the first fragment library specifically tailored to tackle both these challenges.

The FlpTRAP system for purification of specific, endogenous chromatin regions.

The repressor element 1-silencing transcription factor/neuron-restrictive silencer factor (REST/NRSF) binds to repressor element 1/neuron-restrictive silencer element (RE1/NRSE) sites in the genome and recruits effector proteins to repress its target genes. Here, we developed the FlpTRAP system to isolate endogenously assembled DNA-protein complexes such as the REST/NRSF complex. In the FlpTRAP system, we take advantage of the step-arrest variant of the Flp recombinase, FlpH305L, which, in the presence of Flp recognition target (FRT) DNA, accumulates as FRT DNA-protein adduct.

Behavioural and neurodevelopmental impairment at school age following necrotising enterocolitis in the newborn period.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term behavioural and neurodevelopmental complications of neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis at school age.

Method: This was a historic cohort study comparing all surviving children born in Denmark between 1st of January 2002 and 31st of December 2011 with a diagnosis of necrotizing enterocolitis to a group of children without necrotizing enterocolitis, but same gestational age, birth weight and year of birth. Outcomes were investigated through a parental questionnaire.

In-vitro and in-vivo evaluation of a novel bioprosthetic pulmonary valve for use in congenital heart surgery.

Background: Management of congenital malformations of the pulmonary artery and valve can be challenging. The severity often demands early intervention, which is rarely definitive due to the natural growth and multiple surgeries may be required. An artificial valve made entirely from biodegradable materials that will serve as a bioscaffold for host recellularization would be an attractive solution for these patients.

Modulating the Expression Strength of the Baculovirus/Insect Cell Expression System: A Toolbox Applied to the Human Tumor Suppressor SMARCB1/SNF5.

The human tumor suppressor SMARCB1/INI1/SNF5/BAF47 (SNF5) is a core subunit of the multi-subunit ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SWI/SNF, also known as Brahma/Brahma-related gene 1 (BRM/BRG1)-associated factor (BAF). Experimental studies of SWI/SNF are currently considerably limited by the low cellular abundance of this complex; thus, recombinant protein production represents a key to obtain the SWI/SNF proteins for molecular and structural studies. While the expression of mammalian proteins in bacteria is often difficult, the baculovirus/insect cell expression system can overcome limitations of prokaryotic expression systems and facilitate the co-expression of multiple proteins.

Expression of Flp Protein in a Baculovirus/Insect Cell System for Biotechnological Applications.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae Flp protein is a site-specific recombinase that recognizes and binds to the Flp recognition target (FRT) site, a specific sequence comprised of at least two inverted repeats separated by a spacer.
