Background: The regulation of the redox balance in the tumor microenvironment is thought to be an adaptive response of tumor cells to hypoxic environments. In recent years, it has been reported that the hemoglobin β-chain (HBB), which is involved in scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), is expressed in several carcinomas. However, the relationship between HBB expression and the prognosis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains unclear.

Methods: The correlation between FGFR4 CN determined via real-time PCR and protein expression evaluated using western blotting and immunohistochemistry was assessed in ccRCC cell lines (A498, A704, and 769-P), a papillary RCC cell line (ACHN), and clinical ccRCC specimens.
Objectives: The utility of brain metastasis screening in asymptomatic metastatic renal cell carcinoma is controversial. Our study evaluated the utility of routine head computed tomography during systemic therapy.
Methods: We retrospectively investigated 152 metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients who did not initially have brain metastasis at Yamagata University Hospital from January 2008 to July 2019.
Introduction: Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia is an antibody-mediated acquired prothrombotic state induced by heparin exposure. The risk of thromboembolic diseases in kidney transplantation with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia without perioperative anticoagulation has not been determined.
Case Presentation: A 64-year-old male hemodialysis patient with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia was referred to our hospital for living kidney transplantation.
Purpose: We examined the associations between urethral sensation and storage/voiding function in female patients with detrusor overactivity (DO) by measuring urethral current perception threshold (CPT).
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively investigated the medical records of 27 consecutive patients with lower urinary tract symptoms who underwent cystometry, uroflowmetry (UFM), and urethral CPT tests from 2000 to 2015. Patients were classified into 2 groups: with/without DO.
Objectives: To create a new model for the prediction of overall survival in synchronous metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
Methods: Medical records of 158 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma diagnosed at the Yamagata University Hospital from August 2007 to February 2018 were reviewed. Among them, 77 with synchronous metastatic renal cell carcinoma were retrospectively analyzed using the univariate and multivariate analyses.
Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (MC) of the kidney is rare. To the best of our knowledge, the current report is the first case of a giant extraskeletal MC that arose primarily from the right kidney and mimicked renal cell carcinoma at the locally advanced stage (cT3bN0) with vena cava thrombus and multiple pulmonary arterial tumor emboli. Additionally, the literature on renal EMC is reviewed and the possibilities of oncogenic heterogeneity are discussed.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated EPN patients treated in our hospitals using the SOFA score incorporated in the Sepsis-3 updated in 2016.
Results: Seventeen typical EPN patients were included in this study, and were treated with medical management with no drainage (n = 3), retrograde stenting (n = 10), or percutaneous drainage (n = 3).
We investigated the roles of eIF4E phosphorylation (Ser209) in tumour recurrence after curative nephrectomy for localized clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Expression of eIF4E, p eIF4E and MNKs (MAPK interacting kinases), was evaluated in surgical specimens obtained from consecutive non metastatic ccRCC patients ( = 290) by immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunoblotting, and qRT PCR at the protein and mRNA levels. In human RCC cell lines, the effects of eIF4E phosphorylation were examined using immunoblotting, proliferation, migration and invasion assays with pharmacological inhibitors (CGP57380 or ETP45835) and specific small interfering (si) RNAs against MNK1/2(a/b).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of phosphorylated 4EBP1 (p4EBP1) in primary renal cell carcinoma (RCC) as a biomarker in metastatic RCC (mRCC) and non-mRCC cohorts. Primary tumor tissue from 254 non-mRCC and 60 mRCC patients were immunohistochemically stained for t4EBP1 and p4EBP1.

A 28-year-old male visited a nearby hospital with chief complaint of bilateral back pain and fever. He was diagnosed with a right complex renal cyst (Bosniak classification, IIF) with a kidney stone and was referred to our hospital. We first suspected an incarcerated kidney stone and performed flexible transurethral lithotomy; however, his symptoms did not improve.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively examined the data from 303 patients with localized clear cell RCC treated surgically at our institution from 1993 to 2011. Activation of the eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF)4E-binding protein 1 (4EBP1)/eIF4E axis at the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) was evaluated in the tumor specimens.
Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate associations between urethral sensation and urge urinary incontinence (UUI) in patients with and without detrusor overactivity (DO).
Methods: The medical records of 80 consecutive patients who underwent filling cystometry and urethral current perception threshold (CPT) tests were examined retrospectively. Following the exclusion of 4 patients not eligible for analysis, patients were classified into neurogenic DO, idiopathic DO, or DO-negative groups based on neurological and cystometric findings (n = 30, 12, and 34, respectively).
Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a common side effect of the mechanistic target of rapamycin inhibitor everolimus. Most cases of everolimus-induced ILD are mild and reversible. As per guidelines, even if Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events grade 1 or 2 everolimus-induced ILD occurs, either continuation of everolimus without dose reduction or readministration at a low dose is possible.

Methods: One hundred and six patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were subjected to this procedure. Oncological outcomes and renal function according to the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the tubular excretion rate on renoscintigraphy before and at 12 months after surgery were evaluated.
Objective: The CHOKAI and STONE scores are prediction models for ureteral stones. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the diagnostic performance, to examine the optimal cut-off value, and to compare the diagnostic performance of each model.
Methods: Patients who presented to our emergency department with renal colic were considered for this prospective study.
This report documents a case of asynchronous bilateral testicular infarction. The patient was a 42- year-old man who presented with left testicular pain and swelling. He had a past history of right idiopathic testicular infarction and underwent a right orchiectomy 6 years ago.

Relationships between stone etiology and rise in ambient temperature have been reported, but it remains unclear how age and gender affect these relationships.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective examination was conducted of the medical archives of 1005 patients (aged ≥15 years) with acute renal colic diagnosed with urolithiasis upon image examination who consecutively visited emergency departments in three hospitals.
Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVT) is rare but sometimes develops in association with malignant neoplasm. We report two cases of CVT that occurred during cisplatin-based chemotherapy for testicular cancer. A 46-year-old man with stage IIA non-seminomatous germ cell tumour was treated with conventional doses of etoposide and cisplatin (EP).
