Regulation at the level of translation is critical for functions in the nervous system, such as the formation of cell-type specific proteomes or plastic changes in neural circuits. While current knowledge of the translatome is relatively limited compared to transcriptome, a growing array of tools to analyze translation is becoming available. In this review, we introduce techniques for profiling translation on a genome-wide scale with a special emphasis on cell-type specific analyses in the nervous system.

Intracranial cystic lesions such as hemangioblastoma (HB) are commonly found incidentally; however, they can be difficult to diagnose because they require various differential diagnoses. A contrast-enhanced mural nodule on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is typical and can be diagnosed preoperatively; however, some small nodules cannot be visualised and only cysts may be seen, complicating preoperative diagnosis. In such cases, thorough observation of the cysts is necessary for a definitive diagnosis.

We present a case of tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) caused by Clostridioides difficile (CD) in a 43-year-old female. Despite lacking a history of sexually transmitted diseases, the patient had undergone paraovarian cystectomy nine months before admission. Transvaginal ultrasonography performed eight months post-surgery revealed left ovarian enlargement, accompanied by subsequent lower abdominal pain and fever exceeding 38 °C.

Oncolytic viruses (OVs) can selectively replicate in tumor cells and remodel the microenvironment of immunologically cold tumors, making them a promising strategy to evoke antitumor immunity. There are limited methods to stably analyze the interactions between cancer cells and glial cells in vitro, which hinders our molecular understanding. Here, we develop a simple and stable culture method of mouse glial cells, termed mixed-glial culture on/in soft substrate (MGS), which serves well as a platform to study cancer-glia interactions. Using this method, we find that human lung cancer cells become overly dependent on metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1) signaling in the brain microenvironment.
