Since CR (complete response) and PR (partial response) were achieved, this therapy seems to be effective. 5-FU metabolized on its first pass through the liver, and the hepatic extraction with rapid HAI is lower than that with slow HAI.

The measured yields are compared to those in p+p collisions at the same sqrt[s(NN)] scaled up by the number of underlying nucleon-nucleon collisions in d+Au. The yield ratio does not show the suppression observed in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC.

An improved transient isotachophoresis (tITP) procedure for the preconcentration of iodide from highly saline matrices was developed with the objective to quantify iodide in seawater by capillary electrophoresis (CE). The procedure takes advantage of introducing cetyltrimethylammonium chloride into the high-sodium chloride background electrolyte, which due to a specific interaction with iodide amended placement of the analyte at a large distance from the matrix chloride (the latter performed the role of a leading anion). Computer simulation showed that 2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulfonate could be adopted as a suitable terminating ion to enable isotachophoretic focusing at the beginning of the CE run.

We report the uncommon case of MALToma in the cecum initially identified as submucosal tumor, successfully treated by laparoscopy-assisted resection with systemic lymphadectomy. As the metastatic ability and sensitivity against chemotherapy of colonic MALToma is not known, temporally, this treatment seems to be the best choice.

Background/aims: Active gastritis, accelerated cell turnover followed by apoptosis, DNA damage and hyperplasia are often seen in the anastomosis area after gastrectomy. Recently, it has been reported that H. pylori induces apoptosis on gastric cells.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFToward development of a DNA microarray system in which neither labeling nor amplification of the nucleic acids from living cell is required, we have developed a new method for the detection and quantification of target DNA hybridized with probe DNA fixed on a solid surface. This method utilizes a fluorescent intercalator: naphthalene diimide derivative carrying two fluorescent tetradentate beta-diketone-Eu3+ chelates. This compound selectively binds to double stranded DNA (dsDNA) fixed on a plastic assay plate.

We investigated various surgical procedure of distal arch aneurysm to propose a safer strategy with less mortality. From January 1998 to March 2001, we operated 10 cases of distal arch aneurysm. Different methods were applied over the years to reach the current improved technique, which is a combination of retro grade general perfusion, median sternotomy, deep hypothermic circulation arrest with selective cerebral perfusion, pharmacological cerebral protection, none touch aortic method, and open distal anastomosis.

For one such analyte anion, iodide, the formation of several ion-association/partition products with cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) was first discovered when optimizing (decelerating) iodide mobility (in order to achieve effective transient isotachophoretic stacking). At comparatively high concentrations of iodide (> or = 0.

Ginseng is a well known traditional medicine in Asian countries which has attracted attention as a potential chemopreventive agent. In the present study, inhibitory effects of white and red ginseng on tumor development were examined using medium-term liver and multi-organ carcinogenicity bioassay systems. No modifying potential of the ginseng preparations were evident in terms of the numbers or areas of glutathione S-transferase placental form (GST-P)-positive foci in rat livers.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwo-particle azimuthal correlation functions are presented for charged hadrons produced in Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (sqrt [s(NN)]=130 GeV). The measurements permit determination of elliptic flow without event-by-event estimation of the reaction plane. The extracted elliptic flow values (v2) show significant sensitivity to both the collision centrality and the transverse momenta of emitted hadrons, suggesting rapid thermalization and relatively strong velocity fields.

The relative time-activity curves generated from dynamic SPECT in normal control subjects were compared with similar curves from patients with established ischemic heart disease (IHD) and doxorubicin-induced myocardial damage (DxMD). Comparison of such time-activity curves may provide some indirect information concerning qualitative differences in BMIPP metabolism.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFData from Au + Au interactions at sqrt[s(NN)]=130 GeV, obtained with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider, are used to investigate local net charge fluctuations among particles produced near midrapidity. According to recent suggestions, such fluctuations may carry information from the quark-gluon plasma. This analysis shows that the fluctuations are dominated by a stochastic distribution of particles, but are also sensitive to other effects, like global charge conservation and resonance decays.
