Article Synopsis
  • A study used electrospinning to create xanthan gum (XF) and a modified version with thiosemicarbazide (TXF) nanofibers that effectively adsorb lead (Pb) from solutions, achieving high adsorption capacities.
  • Both XF and TXF showed thermal stability up to 800 °C, with TXF offering a larger surface area and unique chemical functional groups, enhancing its adsorption abilities.
  • The TXF and XF nanofibers maintained impressive sustainability, with minimal loss in efficiency after multiple cycles of Pb adsorption and demonstrated excellent desorption capabilities using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid as an eluent.

This research uses a novel TiO@CSC.Alg composite sponge was created by encasing TiO nanoparticles in the natural polymers alginate and chitosan, resulting in a nanocomposite that is both ecologically friendly and biocompatible. Using the generated nanocomposite as a new environmentally friendly adsorbent, As(V) heavy metal ions were effectively removed from aqueous media.
