In Sudan, the HIV testing rates during pregnancy remain low. Limitations in scaling and uptake of PMTCT services are linked to several factors within the healthcare system, including the motivation of healthcare providers. This article describes how a health facility-based health promotion intervention plan was developed, implemented, and evaluated to increase the uptake of PMTCT services using the Intervention Mapping approach.

Background: Access to antenatal HIV testing during pregnancy and the level of uptake of services for Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) in Sudan are very low.
