The Effect of Total Knee Replacement on Dual-Task Gait Performance in Older Adults.

Objective: Total knee replacement (TKR) is a common solution for patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis (OA). Still, fall rates remain relatively high after surgery. TKR may alter pain and knee function, balance control, and proprioception.

Gait Rehabilitation in Ambulant Diplegic Children Using Botulinum A Injection and Ankle Weights.

Objectives: Standing and walking serve an individual's basic needs to move from place to place, and both are the most common activities that people do daily. So, this study aims to investigate the combined effect of botulinum A injection and ankle weight on excessive knee flexion in diplegic children with crouch gait.

Methods: Sixty children with spastic diplegia walking with a crouch gait were included in this study.

Arterial properties in acromegaly: relation to disease activity and associated cardiovascular risk factors.

Purpose: Acromegaly is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality when inadequately treated, which may be secondary to associated comorbidities or to direct IGF-1 effects on the cardiovascular system. By using a control group carefully matched for traditional cardiovascular risk factors, we aimed to assess the direct contribution of disease activity and IGF-1 levels to arterial damage as assessed by measurements of arterial stiffness and endothelial function.

Methods: Twenty-nine subjects with acromegaly (11 males, 52 ± 14 year; 15 active acromegaly) and 24 matched controls underwent evaluation of large and small artery compliance using applanation tonometry, pulse wave velocity (PWV), augmentation index (Alx), carotid ultrasonography intima-media thickness, (IMT) and flow-mediated dilatation (FMD).

Clinical update: treatment of hyperthyroidism in Graves' ophthalmopathy.

The presence of thyroid eye disease (TED) may influence the treatment of hyperthyroidism in patients with Graves' disease. Moreover, treatment of hyperthyroidism may affect the course of Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO). We review the literature and summarise recent knowledge about the impact of treatment modality for hyperthyroidism in GO.
