Anaerobic digestion (AD) of sewage sludge is used to biodegrade sewage sludge into biomethane and digestate. With the addition of thermal processes such as thermal hydrolysis (TH) and wet oxidation (WO), AD biodegradability generally improves. Implementation of additional treatment is challenging due to the limitation in the mass and energy balances.
