The reporting rate of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) by healthcare professionals is low. ADR interventional programs may improve the reporting rate by the medical team. Our literature search revealed that only a few interventional studies among the pediatric population have been published.

Background: Most studies have revealed that the incidence of morbidity and mortality of preterm male infants is greater than that of preterm female infants. Recently, conflicting outcomes have been reported regarding mixed-gender twins. The aim of this study was to estimate the association between gender and outcome in newborn twins of different gender.

Robot-assisted Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty for "Huge" Hydronephrosis Causing Vena Cava Thrombus.

Objective: To present a rare case of "huge" hydronephrosis causing distortion of large vessels and formation of a thrombus in the inferior vena cava. Multidisciplinary treatment was applied with particular focus on pyeloplasty utilizing a robot-assisted laparoscopic approach.

Methods: A 20-month-old male presented to the emergency room severely ill with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever and was subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit, in septic shock.

Background: The diagnostic assessment of right lower quadrant pain in children and adolescents is still a challenge. The aim of this study was to analyze the cases of complicated appendicitis wrongly diagnosed as nonspecific diarrhea, and based on the information obtained suggest a clear and simple policy in order to decrease misdiagnosis in the future.

Methods: Three groups of patients were analyzed: children who underwent appendectomy (group 1); those with gastroenteritis (group 2), and those who underwent appendectomy following hospitalization under the wrong diagnosis of gastroenteritis (group 3).

Unlicensed and Off-Label Medication Use in Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units: No Change Over a Decade.

Introduction: Many of the medications prescribed to children are off-label and/or unlicensed because pharmacologic evaluations have not been performed in this age group.

Methods: All drugs prescribed to patients admitted to the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) (n = 134) and pediatric intensive care units (PICU) (n = 56) during a 2-month observation period were recorded and classified according to patient age, drug license status, indicated use, and typical dosing, frequency and way of administration. Results were compared with prior data collected in 2002, from the same units.

Background: Nephrotoxicity is a significant adverse side effect of gentamicin. Previous preclinical studies showed that hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) may have beneficial effects by attenuating renal damage in rats subjected to renal injury. We evaluated the effect of HBOT on acute renal failure caused by gentamicin.

A prospective case-control study was conducted in a pediatric emergency department to describe the proportion of febrile children experiencing shivering and its clinical significance. Shivering was reported in 186 of 645 febrile children (28.8%).

Complementary and alternative medicine among hospitalized pediatric patients.

Objectives: To estimate the prevalence and describe the characteristics of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use among hospitalized children, and to discover the awareness of medical staff regarding CAM use.

Design/setting: Parents of children aged 0-18 years admitted to the Pediatric Division at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Israel between January and July of 2015 (n=146) were provided a questionnaire regarding socio-economic status and evaluating the CAM use. The medical charts of the participants were reviewed in order to establish whether or not CAM use was documented.

Background: Patients with asthma admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) are often found to have had previous severe asthma exacerbations.

Methods: Patients, ages 218 years, admitted to the PICU at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center over a 10-year period were assessed at a mean of 10 years after their admission and compared with matched patients admitted to the pediatric ward.

Background: One aspect of ordering and prescribing medication is the requirement for a trained professional to review medication orders or prescriptions for appropriateness. Exposure to Hyperbaric Oxygen Intensified Vancomycin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rats.

It has been suggested that oxidative stress is a potential mechanism for vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) has been shown to be effective in treating renal toxicity that has been pharmacologically induced in animal models. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HBO therapy on vancomycin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. The study group comprised 36 Sprague Dawley male rats.
