Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a worldwide major health challenge, and it is a strong predictor of mortality and morbidity. The advances in PAD treatment have resulted in many therapeutic options or endovascular interventions (EVIs) for endovascular revascularization if drug therapy does not lead to substantial improvement. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have reported the efficacy of various EVIs such as atherectomy, stents, and medicated balloons over the traditional transluminal angioplasty; however, the standard treatment for PAD remains unclear due to the lack of head-to-head comparative studies between different EVIs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of vitamin D on primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents, focusing on how vitamin D receptor (VDR) expression affects inflammation in the female reproductive tract.
  • Eighty-five adolescents were evaluated, and after administering vitamin D (50,000 IU weekly for five months), significant reductions in pain were observed, with Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores dropping from 8.7 to 4.8 and Verbal Multidimensional Scoring (VMS) scores improving from 2.65 to 0.80.
  • The findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation may be an effective treatment for managing dysmenorrhea symptoms, potentially reducing reliance on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
