Progestin is a term used to describe a synthetic progestogen. The activity and potency of synthetic progestins are mostly evaluated via parameters associated with their endometrial effects, which are related to their interactions with progesterone, estrogen, androgen, glucocorticoid, and mineralocorticoid receptors. The chemical structure of progestins is the key to understanding their interactions with these receptors and predicting the other effects associated with these drugs.

Objective: HbA1C is the "gold standard" parameter to evaluate glycemic control in diabetes; however, its correlation with mean glucose is not always perfect. The objective of this study was to correlate continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)-derived hemoglobin glycation index (HGI) with microvascular complications.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study including permanent users of CGM with type 1 diabetes mellitus or latent autoimmune diabetes of the adult.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the connection between insulin resistance, measured via estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), and chronic complications in individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D), indicating that insulin resistance plays a significant role in these complications.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 70 T1D patients, finding that 30% had metabolic syndrome (MS), with those having MS showing lower eGDR levels compared to those without.
  • - The results demonstrated that eGDR effectively distinguishes between patients with and without diabetic complications such as nephropathy, retinopathy, and neuropathy, suggesting its potential for use in routine diabetes care despite the need for more diverse studies.

Objective: To examine the performance and agreement of 5 modalities for testing sensory neuropathy against a neurothesiometer among Hispanic patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in an outpatient setting.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary reference center in Mexico City. Sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, and likelihood ratios were calculated using a VibraTip device, 128 Hz tuning fork, and the Semmes-Weinstein 5.

Background: The presence of insulin resistance (IR) and metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) has been called "double diabetes". This entity increases the risk for development of micro and macrovascular complications and cardiovascular mortality. The gold standard for IR quantification is the hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp (HEC) but it is invasive, time-consuming and not available in the majority of the clinical settings.
