Abstract: Gastrointestinal sarcoidosis is a rare and challenging manifestation of sarcoidosis that often presents with nonspecific abdominal symptoms, making diagnosis a complex process.

Here we identify through analyses of near full-length genomes (NFLG) a new HIV-1 CRF derived from subtypes B and F1.

Demographic, Healthcare Access, and Dietary Factors Associated With Thyroid Hormone Treatments for Hypothyroidism.

Context: Clinical guidelines have recommended a trial of liothyronine (LT3) with levothyroxine (LT4) in select patients with hypothyroidism. However, little is known about the real-world use of LT3 and desiccated thyroid extract (DTE) and the characteristics of patients treated with LT3 and DTE.

Objectives: (1) Determine national trends of new LT4, LT3, and DTE prescriptions in the United States; (2) determine whether sociodemographic, healthcare access, and dietary factors are associated with different thyroid hormone (TH) therapies.

Use of a nursing-led geriatrics consult service to deliver age-friendly care.

The Elder Veteran Program (EVP) is a nursing-led approach to deliver inpatient consultative geriatrics care at our academic Midwestern Veterans Hospital. From April to December of 2021, EVP modified its workflow using a Plan-Do-Study-Act approach to include previously under-addressed components of the IHI's "4M's" of Age-Friendly Care (Medication, Mobility, Mentation, and What Matters), with three months of retrospective data review as a Plan phase, three months of monthly Do and Study phases, and a three month Act phase to analyze post-intervention care. We found improvements in frequency of documentation of Medication, Mentation, and What Matters in EVP notes, and maintenance of Mobility documentation.

A primary rodent triculture model to investigate the role of glia-neuron crosstalk in regulation of neuronal activity.

Neuroinflammation and hyperexcitability have been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease, and new models are required to investigate the cellular crosstalk involved in these processes. We developed an approach to generate a quantitative and reproducible triculture system that is suitable for pharmacological studies. While primary rat cells were previously grown in a coculture medium formulated to support only neurons and astrocytes, we now optimised a protocol to generate tricultures containing neurons, astrocytes and microglia by culturing in a medium designed to support all three cell types and adding exogenous microglia to cocultures.

More than 500 millions of people were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and in Peru there is an increasing the high numbers of cumulative cases; as well as the hospitalized people, where more than 20 % require mechanical ventilation. This condition with other respiratory diseases cause patients to remain connected to a mechanical ventilator until they regain the ability to perform this vital function on their own. Some prototypes with characteristics equivalent to a high-end mechanical ventilator have been developed.

Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate/Emtricitabine and Baricitinib for Patients at High Risk of Severe Coronavirus Disease 2019: The PANCOVID Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: This study was designed to evaluate if patients with high risk for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) would benefit from treatment with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) followed by baricitinib in case of hypoxemia and systemic inflammation.

Methods: PANCOVID is an open-label, double-randomized, phase 3 pragmatic clinical trial including adults with symptomatic COVID-19 with ≥2 comorbidities or aged ≥60 years and was conducted between 10 October 2020 and 23 September 2021. In the first randomization, patients received TDF/FTC or no TDF/FTC.

Peptide-based urinary monitoring of fibrotic nonalcoholic steatohepatitis by mass-barcoded activity-based sensors.

Noninvasive detection of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the progressive form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, promises to improve patient screening, accelerate drug trials, and reduce health care costs. On the basis of protease dysregulation of the biological pathways of fibrotic NASH, we developed the Glympse Bio Test System (GBTS) for multiplexed quantification of liver protease activity. GBTS-NASH comprises a mixture of 19 mass-barcoded PEGylated peptides that is administered intravenously and senses liver protease activity by releasing mass-barcoded reporters into urine for analysis by mass spectrometry.

A global observational analysis to understand changes in air quality during exceptionally low anthropogenic emission conditions.

This global study, which has been coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization Global Atmospheric Watch (WMO/GAW) programme, aims to understand the behaviour of key air pollutant species during the COVID-19 pandemic period of exceptionally low emissions across the globe. We investigated the effects of the differences in both emissions and regional and local meteorology in 2020 compared with the period 2015-2019. By adopting a globally consistent approach, this comprehensive observational analysis focuses on changes in air quality in and around cities across the globe for the following air pollutants PM, PM, PMC (coarse fraction of PM), NO, SO, NOx, CO, O and the total gaseous oxidant (OX = NO + O) during the pre-lockdown, partial lockdown, full lockdown and two relaxation periods spanning from January to September 2020.

Identification of a New HIV-1 BC Intersubtype Circulating Recombinant Form (CRF108_BC) in Spain.

The extraordinary genetic variability of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) group M has led to the identification of 10 subtypes, 102 circulating recombinant forms (CRFs) and numerous unique recombinant forms. Among CRFs, 11 derived from subtypes B and C have been identified in China, Brazil, and Italy. Here we identify a new HIV-1 CRF_BC in Northern Spain.

Clinical, Immunological, and Virological Outcomes Among Youths With Perinatal HIV After Transition to Adult Units in Spain From 1997 to 2016.

Background: Children living with HIV are reaching adulthood and transitioning to adult clinics. This study aimed to describe clinical and immunovirological status after transition in patients with perinatal HIV.

Methods: Patients participating in the Spanish multicenter pediatric HIV cohort (CoRISpe) transferred to adult care (FARO cohort) from 1997 to 2016 were included.

Background: Previous studies have suggested that hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has an aggressive presentation and a shorter survival in people with HIV (PWH). This could be due to later diagnosis or lower rates of HCC treatment, and not to HIV infection itself. AIM: :: To assess the impact of HIV on HCC survival in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected patients.

Association between chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis and papillary thyroid carcinoma: A retrospective study in surgical specimens.

Introduction: The hypothesis of an association between papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis (CLT) continues to generate debate. Retrospective studies suggest that there is a greater probability of diagnosing a PTC in surgical specimens with CLT; however, prospective studies suggest that there is no true increase in risk.

Methods: An analytical, cross-section measurement and retrospective study was carried out considering gender, age and diagnosis of CLT and PTC in surgical specimens.

Provision of resource facilitation services for individuals with acquired brain injury across the United States: results of a 2018 resource facilitator provider survey.

Objective: Resource Facilitation is a lesser-known service line within the field of brain injury rehabilitation and has been described as similar to case management, care coordination, and neuronavigation. The purpose of this project was to evaluate current Resource Facilitation programs and provide a comprehensive summary of program characteristics to work toward a common definition of Resource Facilitation services and inform future program development and evaluation frameworks.

Materials And Methods: An online survey was sent to all known Resource Facilitation programs in the US (N = 70).

Low performance of ultrasound surveillance for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma in HIV-infected patients.

Objective: To assess the performance of ultrasound surveillance for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in HIV-infected patients.

Methods: The GEHEP-002 cohort recruits HCC cases diagnosed in HIV-infected patients from 32 centers across Spain. The proportion of 'ultrasound lack of detection', defined as HCC diagnosed within the first 3 months after a normal surveillance ultrasound, and the proportion of 'surveillance failure', defined as cases in which surveillance failed to detect HCC at early stage, were assessed.

The development and evaluation of a web-based programme to support problem-solving skills following brain injury.

Background And Aim: Cognitive impairments following brain injury, including difficulty with problem solving, can pose significant barriers to successful community reintegration. Problem-solving strategy training is well-supported in the cognitive rehabilitation literature. However, limitations in insurance reimbursement have resulted in fewer services to train such skills to mastery and to support generalization of those skills into everyday environments.

Impact of long-acting local anesthesia on clinical and financial outcomes in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Background: Our objective was to assess clinical and financial outcomes with long-acting liposomal bupicavaine (LB) in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Methods: Patients that received local infiltration with LB were strictly matched to a control group, and compared for postoperative pain, opioid use, length of stay (LOS), hospital costs, and complication, readmission, and reoperation rates.
